My first time to go to Universal Studios in 1989, the City walk was non-existent then and in 2005, at my latest trip to LA, I was surprised at seeing a long area of bars, restaurants and kitsch at the Unversal Studios Entrance. The Universal City Walk is a glittery mall with one-of-a-kind shops, a neon art museum and an 18-screen cinema. There is a large steel-web canopy with a leaping fountain below, created by WET. A huge television monitor brought in by Panasonic, is located above the multiplex, showing upcoming Universal movie releases, music videos, and NBC Universal promotions stands next to the giant guitar towering over the Hard Rock Cafe.
Admission is free but there is a parking fee and most poeple go here for the Universal Studio Tour so you still pay.

Howl at the Moon is a total entertainment experience where the piano players and staff not only entertain the guests... the guests become part of the show! The focal point of the nightclub is a stage featuring a pair of baby grand pianos. The piano players are the ringmasters responsible for creating the excitement. Requests are encouraged! They can play almost anything! Customers tend to be a diverse group comprised of all ages. It's the perfect spot for birthdays, anniversaries, bachelorette parties, and other celebrations. Sundays are hard to miss with 3 for 1 drink specials all night! Tuesdays are an awesome mix between Karaoke and Open Mic when you get to play or sing on stage with the band. Totally Way-Back Wednesdays celebrate the bygone 80's with celebrity rock star performances. $1 Miller Lites every College Night (Thursday). Friday's Howl Happy Hour pours you 1/2 priced drinks 'til 8pm.

City Walk provides a varied selection of things to do, day or night. There is a large number of restaurants from fast food to more relaxed dining, plenty of shops selling souveniers and memorabillia, as well as cinemas and live entertainment. The atmosphere is great, but the whole area is usually very busy so be prepared to wait for quite a while to get a seat in a restaurant unless you want to eat at a really unusual/off peak time.
