Bucca Di Beppo: Really Huge Servings of Italian Family Restaurant

by machomikemd Updated Jul 31, 2012
    outside
    4 more images

this is my favorite italian restaurant if you want to super size your eating pleasures vie their "Buca Size" meals for the family. This Classic southern italian family style joint is one of the popular dining venues at the universal City Walk for their huge family meals to share and reasonable prices. The name roughly translates as "Joe's Basement" (buca, which literally means "hole," can be a slang word for basement or cellar, and Beppo is a nickname for Giuseppe, the Italian form of "Joseph", in Southern Italy). The food at Buca di Beppo is served family style, each item served à la carte and shared among the dining party, the chain is owned by Planet Hollywood group. Each room at Buca is themed, and all restaurants have a Pope table -- the largest single table, round, in a room by itself, with a bust of the Pope as centerpiece -- and kitchen table -- a table, usually inset to the wall, directly across from the main kitchen, at which the waiter and chefs will converse with you and allow you to sample many dishes.

Favorite Dish: the Buca Size Meals! each bucca di beppo restaurant has many selections in it's varied menu from the single serve sizes to the "buca size" meals and these are classic italian italian american fare like peperroni pizza, fried calamari, chianti braised short ribs, penne arrabiata and more. prices vary if the meals are ordered single srve, small buca size (good for 2) or large buca size (good for 4 or more). they also have their in house wine plus an extensive selections of other wines.

    the sausage kingdom
    4 more images

This Sausage extravaganza was initally just a hole in the wall stall in beach tourist trap area of Venice Beach in the early 80's and due to word of mouth and juicy, meaty and plump sausages (He called it "haut dogs" since they are so uncommom that he added not only beef but , chicken and duck and lamb and pork and added in all kinds of natural flavorings such as cilantro, oranges, tangerines, figs, corn and apples. Some of them even had beer or tequila for additional flavor and moisture) became soo popular that other branches started sprouting everywhere. This Branch is in Universal City Walk and is always filled with lots of people.

    Easy on the Wallet!

    Opens: Daily 11am-9pm

Favorite Dish: aside from the usual beef hotdogs, which we did not order to try the other wonderful styles of hotdog, tequila chicken sausage made with jalapeños, corn, and lime is a best seller (hey I love to buy tequila chicken at target and Costco). sweet Italian sausage is also good and the Spicy Chicken Andouille Sausage is also a knockout. Prices starts from $ 5 w/o drinks and fries and $ 8 with both.

Bubba Gump Universal City Walk: Run Bubba Run

one of my favorites. Almost everyone is familiar with the movie "Forrest Gump," and this is an excellent commercial adaptation of that theme and story in a fun eatery. Launched in 1996 by Viacom Consumer Products and the Rusty Pelican Company, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. became the first theme restaurant inspired by a film. The restaurant has also gained fame for its unique paging system consisting of two license plates on the tables marked "Run Forrest Run" from Jenny's famous quote and "Stop Forrest Stop" based on the signs used to help Forrest when he played football at the University of Alabama. The red "Stop Forrest Stop" sign is used to signal that a table needs service and the blue "Run Forrest Run" means that all is well.

    Hours:
    Mon-Thu. 11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

    Fri-Sat. 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.

    Sun. 11:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Favorite Dish: The menu consists mostly of shrimp dishes, but also other seafood, as well as Southern and Cajun cuisine. Of the company's menu, the company's CEO says (quoting from the movie) that "shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, there's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. Th-that's about it."

But I also ate A Orpillo Crab for $ 20.99 and and my friends ate the simple Burgers and the chiken fajitas and pasta. Also tryp their special cocktails like Bayou Surpise and Delta Sunset for $ 7.50, Perfect!

    Love this mural wall!

This place can be hazardous especially if you love chocolate. It boast: "2,000 square feet of chocolate heaven. Chocolaté Loco salutes the Aztec origin of chocolate with handmade Mexican confections, chocolate covered fresh jalapeños or habeñero brownies.
A hot cocoa bar offers a variety of hot cocoas." I walked in and walked out, I was afraid of having a chocolate overload. Believe me it was tough, but it allllllll looked good!

This place is usually always jumping and at times crowded, so expect that. We have been in here a couple of times and enjoyed the decor and the energy. Food and service was good. It is fun, trendy, but can be a little loud. It is a hangout for many celebrities, so keep an eye out.

These restaurants are awesome. There is one in Vegas and we enjoyed the food, decore and the service. Buca di Beppo is an authentic Italian restaurant that offers flavorful Italian dining for family and friends while keeping the Italian traditions of food, friendship and hospitality. In the spirit of Italian culture, the dishes are served family style and are meant to be shared. So if you are hungry, you'll love this place.

Hard Rock Cafe: Hard Rock Cafe at Citywalk

by starrlot Updated Dec 9, 2007

First off, this has to be the furthest restaurant from the entrance to City Walk. However, it is worth it...somewhat...if you like loud music blasting in your ear preventing you from being able to communicate with the rest in your party.

The food is good and service great. The gift shop has unique Hard Rock memoribilia.

It is extremely crowded and not that handicapped friendly. If you are wanting to experience Hard Rock Cafe, go for it, if it doesn't matter, look elsewhere.

Another [place you can stop for great food and a great atmosphere is the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood here at Universal City Walk. Just look for the 78 foot tall neon Fender Stratocaster. There are guitars all over the place. The chandeliers consist of saxophones. There is a burnt orange 57 Cadillac rotating over the main bar. Good food, great decor, good service, live bands, what more do you need? Open 11 AM to 12 AM Sunday through Thursday and 11 AM to 1 AM Friday and Saturday.

Camacho's Cantina: If You Need Mexican Food

by Basaic Written Oct 24, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Camacho's Cantina

Camacho's Cantina is easy to find just look for the big bronze caballero and the big wooden doors. Decor is better than your typical Mexican Restaurant, with lots of wood and dim lighting. The menu includes a wide variety of Mexican food all of which seems to be well prepared. Definitely worth a stop. Camacho's is open from 11 AM to 11 PM Sunday through Thursday and 11 AM to 12 AM Friday and Saturday. Save money on drinks (like their great Margaritas during happy hour, Monday through Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM.

Favorite Dish: Try the quesadillas, and the steak fajitas, with peppers and caramelized onions. Great Margaritas. If you want to skip the alcohol try the cinnamon horchata.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company: All Kinds of Shrimp

    Bubba Gump Shrimp Company
    2 more images

If you like seafood, you have to stop at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. They have about every type of shrimp mentioned in the movie, plus some. The decor has lots of heavy wood and memorabilia from the movie and the south. There are license tags on each table (see photo) that say Run, Forrest Run (if you don't need anything) and Stop, Forrest Stop (if you need the waiter/waitress. Service was very responsive.

Favorite Dish: I had one of the shrimp variety plates and it was fantastic. Later we stopped back and I had one of their mixed drinks in a keepsake glass. I will not fail to stop here again if I am near one. Open daily at 11 AM.
