    Upper Lot

by machomikemd Updated Jul 30, 2012

Universal Studios Hollywood is divided into three areas, the Universal City Walk, The Upper Lot and the Lower Lot. This will be the lower lot tips. The Upper lot is home to a variety of family based attractions and shows. It is also home to many dining and merchandise shops as well as the park's entrance. For children and families The Adventures of Curious George and The Simpsons Ride are offered. For older guests the park offers Universal's House of Horrors, a year-round haunted house. This Upper lot is also home to all of the park's shows including The Blues Brothers Revue, the Special Effects Stage, the Studio Tour, Universal's Animal Actors and Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular. The Upper lot is also home to two 3-D films: Shrek 4-D (which features additional immersive features) and T2 3-D: Battle Across Time.

    King Kong! Kongfrontation (now Closed)

by machomikemd Updated Jul 28, 2012

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It was destroyed by the backlot fire so nowadays it is not part of the attraction (sigh). This former attraction featured a brief encounter with an animatronic King Kong, who would shake the tram and attempt to destroy a chopper which was supposed to rescue tour guests. A TV monitor in a New York building facade displayed fake breaking news updates. Eventually, Kong is defeated and the tram would pass through safely, continuing on through further attractions in the backlot.

This attraction is now replaced by a king kong 3 d movie which i will do a separate tip.

you're Ugly Kong! the new king kong 3 d poster ok, will see the new king kong

Back to the Future Ride (Now Closed)

by machomikemd Updated Jul 28, 2012

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Golly, I've recently learned that this old ride is now closed also as of september 2007. Doc Brown will be mad! Riders enter the ride as "volunteers" for a time travel experiment at Doc Emmett Brown's fictional Institute of Future Technology. Brown explains that the plan is for them to travel one day into the future, but that caution must be exercised as Biff Tannen (the Villain) has escaped his time period and is now running amok in the space-time continuum. The ride follows Biff tannen through time in an 8 passenger vehicle and eventually collars him and Riders exit the vehicle, as Brown thanks them and reminds them that "the future is what you make it!"

It is now a Simpson's Ride (se my separate simpsons ride tips)

Hey Professor! facing the former back to the future ride again pose now a simpsons ride

    The Mummy Ride

by machomikemd Updated May 28, 2011

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Brendan Fraser Wannabes will enjoy this ride (i'm one of them too heheheh). Obviously patterned after the Mummy Movie 2 with Imhotep actor Arnold Vosloo in the scene (no brendan fraser though). The Concept uses a roller coaster type mine car (similar to Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland) and the 2 minute fast ride goes into various scenes and props of the Mummy 2 movie plus the roller coaster spins and turns around dince it is a closes roller coaster ride. Awesome ride!

    Waterworld Part 2

by machomikemd Updated Apr 4, 2011

More Pictures Inside Waterworld with the live action of the characters. this attraction is based on the much ballyhoed and very expensive Kevin Costner Starrer in 1995, the Waterworld with Jennie Triplehorn. The film may be a flop then but this attraction is definitely not! lots of people line up for this Sea extravaganza including me again in 2009 hehehhe. The seating is in three sections with arena seating that goes up and back. The front seats are the wet zones. The show itself is a shorter retelling of the story featuring lots of special effects, including the landing of the sea plane. As of 2006, the actors in the show introduce themselves at the end and give some background on what they've done in the past.

Jurassic park, T2 3D, Water World...

by janika Updated Apr 4, 2011

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can't miss the Jurassic Park boat ride. Spare underwear is a good idea. You'll get wet, guaranteed.

These are the huge, long escalators that take you right down to the Jurassic Park ride. There you will also find other cool shows. You must also see the Terminator two show in 3D.
3-D glasses are provided by the park.

For more images on the Water World theme show, please check my Water World travelodges! http://themeparks.universalstudios.com/hollywood/website/waterworld.html

    House of Horrors

by Yaqui Updated Jan 10, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Voted Best Year Round Haunted Attraction in America by HauntWorld Magazine and I was not surprised. The whole family wanted to ventured in here, but as we got close my Nate changed his mind and well, I was a little scared about going in here myself. So I waited for John and Nick to return and they both throughly enjoyed it. So I went in with John and unfortunately he lost some skin on his arms. I was scared. It has some of the classic characters such as Frankenstein, Wolf Man, vampires and Chucky.

There are some warnings. One of the sets is a little crusome for younger children if they so decided to enter. So just beware. Still, it was fun and something we would do again when we return.

    Hollywood Sign

by machomikemd Written Nov 27, 2009

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

the hollywood mural above the hills of hollywood near US 101 highway became a famous symbol of Los Angeles (but it is hard to got there since the roads are winding and the area is far from the freeways plus the area around the hollywood sign is bare and without any attractions beside it) but this is not the real hollywood sign but a large photoshopped mural of the famous Hollywood sign in the area of The Glam Tram Tour. Lots of people take pictures in front of this mural before procedding on a 45 minute glam tours of universal studio back lots.

the mural the photoshopped mural just after the entrance to studio tours ok

Who hasn't known about the Bates Motel and House? who doesn't know Norman Bates? who doen'nt know Alfred Hitchcock's Pyscho Movie? well if you're one of them, maybe your from another planet or just plain out of this world low IQ hehehe. this is one of the higlights of the studio backlot tour at Universal City Studios. Unfortunately you cannot go inside since you can only have a few seconds to take pictures from inside the Tram during a photo op stop and this Norman Bates cast guy will run after the tram with a knife.

    the Earthquake Experience

by machomikemd Updated Nov 27, 2009

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

this part of the tram ride is a very old attraction but still thrills people in the glam tram tour. In this part of the tram ride, You are entering tunnel that is simulated like an underground BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) ride in San Francisco and what else but an 8.3 richter earthquake will suddenly erupt and mayhem ensues like a gas truck careening near the tram and fires starting everywhere. It takes 1 minute for the expererience to start and stop and 15 seconds for the props to re arrange for the next tram!

I'm Shaking (pun intended) near miss hehehe ok over now re arranging

Jurassic Park 3 Back lot (looks like dino crisis)

by machomikemd Updated Nov 27, 2009

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

this area of the Studio Backlot tours is the Setting for Jurassic Park III, in a way it's like Dino Crisis game in Playstation 1. The ploy here is that Velociraptors have escaped the cages in the park and are after you so you will be surpised by the animatronic raptors here plus some small dinosaurs spit on your so some will get soaking wet if they don't watch out hehehe.

    surprise where are the Raptors?

    War of the Worlds Lot

by machomikemd Updated Nov 27, 2009

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is one of the main draws in the 45 minute Glam Tram tour of the Backlots of Universal Studios, it is the area beside the Psycho house (known as Psycho Flats) used to be the site of Falls Lake - a large water-tank and waterfall used in numerous productions. the area is currently occupied by the huge outdoor airplane crash set built for War of the Worlds. A commercial 747 aircraft was leased by the production and then chopped into pieces and transported to Universal, where the full set has been left fully dressed as it was during filming. The only change made to the set following filming was to move the houses on the right of the tram off the road (so the tram can pass safely).

Tram Tour of the Studio Lot

by machomikemd Updated Nov 27, 2009

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

this is the most famous attraction in the Universal Studios Hollywood (really!). This where the Glam Tram word was invented but now it is just named tram, ok!. The tour has always been at the heart of Universal Studios Hollywood. The Tram Tour lasts about 45 minutes, is led by a tour guide (seen throughout the tram on a video screen) and travels through the Front Lot, Backlot and various attractions. Along the way are sets and props from many famous movies. The Tour is the signature attraction at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park, and unlike many other theme park studio tours, goes into the heart of a busy, working movie studio.

Film Production sets from the films Psycho, War of the Worlds, Back to the Future, The Sting, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas are visited in the tour. There are also 'general purpose' sets visited, such as the neighborhood from Desperate Housewives (Wisteria Lane), and a neighborhood that is made to look like an old west town. This neighborhood has 6 streets, each with the essentials of a saloon and sheriffs station, and before the advent of sound, up to six westerns could be shot at once. The tour also winds through sound stages, and the tour guide will tell you what movies, television shows, music videos, television commercials, and/or still camera photo shoots are currently shooting on the lot. The tram also passes by miniature models of the ship and Skull Island from 2005 film King Kong
