Love the sunset party... crazy dancing on the beach. You'll have fun here-))! Just before sunset follow the sound of beating drums onto the sand and you'll find an eclectic bunch of people dancing to the beat of dozens of drummers. This seems to happen on the weekends.....and if you don't feel like joining the circle of dancers then you can always bring your own drum and get in on the music making.
Dress Code: Wear what you were wearing...there is no dress code. Some people look like they are right out of the 60's while others are in their casual beach attire.
A TOTAL dive bar! This is a TRUE dive bar, complete with a lingering smell of urine and puke, masked by Lysol. The drinks are REALLY stiff here and even a couple will get you tipsy! Our main bartender, Steve, is a big guy who will serve you up strong drinks! They have pool tables also.
Dress Code: Extremely casual. Jeans and a t-shirt will suffice.
Okay, so my friends and I practically live here because it's within stumbling distance to their house. James Beach is a restaurant/bar with the restaurant side on the right and the bar side on the left. On the left is the courtyard and a little room in the back that's upstairs. There is one pool table back there. They make the BEST mojitos here! Apparently, in the past year, this place has also become THE place to be! Everyone on the Westside (West Los Angeles area) thinks it's SOOO cool to come here. Rule of thumb in LA: any place you find that's low key and cool will become the next hot spot before you know it.
Dress Code: Typical LA evening attire - black always works. Dress shirts, slacks, dresses, etc....
The otheroom is always packed. The people are awesome and it's a great way to start off the evening. They don't care what you are wearing....After all, its Venice Beach. You can even bring your dog inside and have him hang out with you.
The only downer is there is no food. They only serve different types of beer and wine. Don't worry though, because you have Hal's and Joe's are in walking distance.
In the mood to drink? Head to the Otheroom in Venice (just opened recently). You're sure to have a tough time deciding your poison for the night. This place has a bewildering list of imported beers, wines, sherries and more. Large, spacious, cozy and it never gets too crowded. Exposed brick walls and candles define this place's interiors.
They serve 60-plus microbrews and imported beers, as well as wines, ports, and sherries.
Just plonk yourself on one of the comfortable sofas and drink the night away. Cheers!
P.S. If you like Belgian beers, try Chimay.
Dress Code: Be yourself!!
