Downtown Walnut Creek is a hot spot for nightlife in the east bay. People come from all around to drink at Crogans, Mr. Lucky's, Echo, and Dan's. Main street is usually packed with young people on the weekends ready to booze it up and meet a new boyfriend/ girlfriend. Eventhough Walnut Creek is my hometown, I still enjoy going to these places. However, for anyone who is thinking about drinking and driving in Walnut Creek- don't. You will get pulled over.
There are sooo many cops in Walnut Creek (and God bless them.) It seems they have nothing really to do but catch drunk drivers, or a least pull people over. If you decide to go to downtown, you will see what I mean. Last time I was there, there were cops in the bar walking around. (Is that really neccesary? Kind of a buzz kill.)
Take a taxi or have a friend drive.

Walnut Creek has a relatively low crime rate. When major crimes occur, its police force responds. However, let’s just say that Walnut Creek has a reputation for a police department that is a bit over enthusiastic for enforcing minor crimes, especially related to traffic issues.
