    WeHo Crosswalks

by kevinism Written Dec 6, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In 2012 the West Hollywood City Council approved painting the crosswalks at the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard rainbow colors in honor of gay pride. The crosswalks were painted before the festival began, and by the end of the weekend they were barely visible, covered in grime, footprints and trash.

Since that time, the council approved the funds to keep the rainbow crosswalks permanently and have appropriated the funds to re-paint them, as well as put a coat of something on them that keeps them shiny and clean all the time. How gay.

The location of the crosswalks is considered the heart of Boystown, where the gay male population of Los Angeles roams wild and free.

    Feeling of Elsewhere in WeHo

by marinarena Updated Jun 24, 2015

Many times, I feel as though not in America in West Hollywood. On many corners, you'll hear more Russian or some slavic tongue than plain ol' American chat. Eastern Europeans are in large number in the community, especially by the Hollywood border. In fact, a common WeHo resident is a 2nd generation Russian (often older 45 or +), or a single person with no children- particularly a gay male of various ages or a young person of whichever sexual preference in his/hers 20s or 30s pursuing a career, often in the entertainment industry. The "nuclear American family with 1.9 children" seems almost ghost in the community. It would quite a sight to see a man and wife with kids walking down the street.

Celebrated conservative American values are not the norm in WeHo. Attitude are broadly liberal, more like in Western Europe. This can be said of the fashion style and taste in food and dining. Come here for yourself for a good insider view of it all and you'll know what I say.

Go with the hip crowd and get a tattoo!!!!!! ;o)

I got my only tattoo at:
    Sunset Strip Tattoo
    8418 W. Sunset Blvd.

    West Hollywood, CA 90069
    Phone: (323) 650-6530

I heard they've been at the same location for 30 yrs. It was bright, friendly, laid back and non-intimidating at all!!!! They will listen to what you really want.... I drew my own and they stamped it on me! I think they also take walk-ins.

This is a scan of my tattoo (it's on lower back... no! don't even try and imagine me scanning it, ROFL.... not a pretty picture)

    Know 'bout Boystown

by marinarena Written Apr 21, 2008

To capture the heart, soul, 6 pack and crotch of WeHo, walk along Santa Monica Blvd, roughly between La Cienega and Robertson. This is Gay L.A. central, featuring trendy boutique-style shops and clubs. Popular establishments include the East west Lounge and A Different light bookstore. About 80 percent of the pedestrians and bystanders are fairly fashionable young men who are most likely of the homosexual persuasion. And it's about 50/50 that they walk with airs or come across very happy and friendly. Well, make this assumption or not but once here, you'll see that I am about right :-) One thing I know, as a girl walking the street, I can certainly count on not being hit on!
