The Roxy: Intimate Yet Not Quiet

by marinarena Written Nov 27, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have been here three times, only to see concerts. Lots of famous acts perform here, as well as local and lesser known performers.

If there is one complaint about the club it is the decor- or the lack of it. It is just black -walled and blah. In the back of the club, there are a few tables for sitting. This area is a VIP area when there is a concert. Only here, one can rest the feet while listening to the band, otherwise standing is mandatory.

There is a food menu but the Roxy is not well suited for being a eating hotspot. So, go for a bite to eat outside.

Dress Code: Wear something casual here, try a nice pair of jeans and a leather jacket.

The Abbey: Celebrities, Straights, and Sloshed

Once upon a time, The Abbey was a coffee shop about 6x6 feel big. Over the last 15 years they have bought out each of the buildings around them (including a ceramics shop) until the Abbey is what it is today.

Today, the Abbey is a large bar complex with indoor and outdoor areas, multiple bars and candles everywhere. Hang out with the boys and girls in the busy outdoor patio or chill in front of one of the fireplaces or in the comfy couch booths in the back while sipping very expensive mixed drinks. A great place for happy hour, brunch or a night out.

Named LAs best bar as well as the Best Gay Bar in the World, it's certainly true that the place has something for everyone. The drinks (although outrageously expensive) are good, the service is good, and the people are beautiful (including the ridiculously chiseled bartenders). Plus they have go go boys all day and night! There's always a celebrity or two in the mix as well.

If you're a loval, the place can get annoying, as the once gay mecca has now become the home for all sort of up and comers and well as wanna be actors. If you're a tourist however, this is one stop you cannot miss.

    Dress Code: Anything goes.
