Century City (at the outdoor mall), L.A.

Favorite thing: If you are visiting Los Angeles and want to feel very safe and be in town, Century City is perhaps the best place to stay. OK, this may seem odd to say , especially to locals who know about Century City. In the end, though, it makes perfect sense to stay here for your L.A trip...and why?

Simply, Century City is well maintained in all senses and, personally, I have never heard of Century City in assocation with crime (well, except for crime in the white-collar sense of course :-) The area of this Westside community is composed of secured skyscrapers and well kept streets. CC is almost strictly a business center with a population mostly of busy working professionals. No need to worry about thugs and the like roaming the streets here.

Century City is just so preoccupied with making and spluging money to have a crime problem. On the other hand, neighboring Beverly Hills has every now and then a problem with crime, though very rare and not major to cause panic for long.

A tourist can feel safe in well-kept high rise hotels with an excellent, worldwide reputation, such as the Hyatt, Holiday Inn Express and The Westin. The price is not so much more dear than that of accomdations in other parts of L.A. In fact, Century City hotels are likely to give you special weekend deals because corporate visitors clear out of the rooms after Friday and hotels want to fill the place. Weekends are so quiet here. I love to take strolls here-- no major foot traffic to deal with !

Also, one cannot beat the convenience of location of this place. CC is adjacent to Beverly Hills and close to Santa Monica, top spots for major entertainment, sight-seeing , and shopping.

OK, so where exactly is West L.A.?

defaced sign in Park La Brea, Los Angeles

Favorite thing: Maybe it's more like "an interesting thing" than favorite... It's quite peculiar and funny to me to make a West L.A. page , as I still am trying to figure out where exactly it begins or ends. Of course, this can be said of about any place in suburbanized southern California.

Geographically and politically speaking, West L.A. is a zone among the communities of Century City, Rancho Park and Cheviot Hills. Still, others, like me, will also include the neighboring Westwood, Palms, Mar Vista and Sawtelle as part of "West L.A." The latter three communities are more residential and lesser tourist places of interest. Westwood, the movie premiere mecca and UCLA headquarters, will be more explored indeed in my West L.A. pages.

    A Lean Towards Health

by marinarena Written Mar 2, 2005

Favorite thing: What's nice about the Westside is that there is a general attitude and strong urge to live, think and eat healthy. There are several health food stores , markets and restaurants, as well as quality yoga studios, wellness centers and gyms on the west part of the city than in the other parts. If only there was not as much smog and pollution in L.A. -- this area would one of the overall healthiest zones in the country.
