Westlake Village was the finish line for the Amgen Tour of California, an eight stage bicycle race with some of the top bikers from around the globe. Lance Armstrong was among the riders until an accident occurred on the sixth stage. He injured his left eye and required 8 stitches to close the wound and caused him to withdraw from the race. Stage eight was won by Ryder Hesjedal. Michael Rogers of Australia won the over all race with American David Zabriskie second and Three-time champion Levi Leipheimer of the United States finishing third. It was a great race starting with the first stage from Nevada City, California (near Lake Tahoe) and went to Sacramento, California (state capital). Stages two through seven took the racers down to Los Angeles and the for the final eight stage, the riders sped along four 21-mile circuits through Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills, and up famed Mulholland Highway with its steep climbs and numerous switchbacks. It was exciting to see the race up close and personal, as it is the largest professional cycling event in the USA.
Okay! Westlake Village has a public golf course! Yes, it's true. Some things can be enjoyed by all in Westlake Village. Not many public courses are left and this is one golf course that is a real pleasure to play.
The 18 regulation holes are laid out so that they don't interfere with each other and the trees and water make this a challenge in a world of beauty. Not as long as many courses, this par 67 course is 5080 yards.
Equipment: Golf carts are available and recommended. A driving range and putting green is also at the course. A pro shop has all the gear you may need, even rental clubs.
