Westlake Village Things to Do

It is happening right here in Westlake Village proper. A vineyard is being born on the property of the Westlake Village Inn. I don't know the landscape artist, but it looks like it will be a true vineyard ala Napa, well, a mini-Napa. Olive trees outline the property with beauty and grace. A water fountain will embrace the northeast corner of Agoura...

  • Westlake Village Lake

Westlake Village has a lake. It is a private lake for residents and guests of the residents only. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Homes surround the lake and many are on an Island. All of them have their own dock off their yards. But, you can enjoy the view. Walking on the walkway by the Landing parking lot is a relaxed way to see the electric...

Westlake Village has hiking trails to enjoy the great outdoors. Location near the Santa Monica Mountains gives one the ability to hike trails with great views all within the area. There are also many walking trails that are tailored for the young and elderly that wind throught the neighborhoods of Westlake Village.Your choice, a little rugged or a...

Westlake Village Restaurants

  • There is a new Wine Bar in Town

First things first. A vineyard was designed for the northeast corner of Agoura Road and Lakeview Canyon Road in Westlake Village on the beautiful grounds of the Westlake Village Inn Resort. Included in the property is the "hot spot" at night for Westlake Village, Bogie's Lounge. Also a bistro style restaurant, Mediterraneo is located behind the...

  • Jalapeno Margarita headquarters

Bingo! Loteria! Grill. Bingo is the word after finding this excellent Mexican restaurant. Loteria is the name of a game similar to Bingo in Mexico. The theme of the restaurant features Loteria cards. The cartoon murals on the walls of the Loteria cards by artist Richard Altuna add a fun atmosphere to the dining room. You go for the food, but you...

This restaurant has an outstanding Italian bistro style flair with not only excellent food choices but an excellent view from the outside tables of the Swan Pond. Cozy up with a table next to the inside fireplace for that special occasion. Plenty of ambiance here to put a smile on your face.A diversified menu that should be able to meet the demands...

Located in the Westlake Plaza Shopping center, west side, sits this unassuming frontage of a restaurant. The only giveaway that something good may be inside is the outside tables that after 6pm are crowded. You have been looking at FIN'S Seafood Grill. Inside is a cozy bar and seating arrangement. Every time I visit, it seems as if the restaurant...

Zin Bistro Americana has one advantage over the many choices for restaurants in Westlake Village. It sits next to the lake in Westlake Village. The food dishes are American style with decent size portions. Entering the restaurant and one gets good vibes from the sleek lines and warm colors of the interior. Three separate dining areas, one being an...

Cafe Firenze, an Italian gourmet restaurant, is not located in Westlake Village, but it is so close and the drink and food creations are so fabulous, I have included the recently returned owners Fabio Viviani, executive chef, and Jacopo Fallieni, mixologist, venture Cafe Firenze restaurant in my Westlake Village "Off The Beaten Path" section. Fabio...

Boccaccio's is located by the lake in Westlake Village. Outside umbrella tables are choice seating in warm weather. Inside is an inviting seating area with a view of the lake out the windows. Many of their dishes could be called gourmet, but that might keep some from being tempted to dine here, so I will call it fine dining. The atmosphere is...

"IN-N-OUT, IN-N-OUT, That's what a hamburger's all about!" That just about sums it up. One of the best, if not the best hamburger in my neck o'the woods. There are many IN-N-Out locations, mostly in California with some in Nevada, Arizona and Utah. Totally there are around 260 locations and all of them are family owned since the beginning in 1948....

Something to eat, house made beer to drink, sports to watch on a big screen. No, you are not at home, but at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse. This is a chain operation, but acts like your local pub. Beer is brewed on the premise as well as all the popular brews are offered. The bar also has all the alcoholic spirits for full cocktail service. Food...

CLOSED. I am keeping this post because it was my favorite deli and I want to keep it in my memory.*Mama Mia! This is one spicy meatball. Actually, many spicy meatballs are available to take out. The aroma as you enter sends the word, Italia, throughout your body. Something about real Italian deli's that do that to me. Bauducco's has been my main...

Cisco's has been a staple Mexican Restaurant in Westlake Village since 1972. I first went to Cisco's in 1977 and have been a patron even since. In fact, I enjoy the food at Cisco's so much, that I was given a surprise 50th birthday party by my wife for 100 guests. That is one birthday I will not forget. My wife laughed afterwards and told me that...

  • Seafood

On our way to attend a birthday bash at Bogie's Bar, we thought we should have some dinner in case there wasn't enough food at the party. Located in a shopping center, this was a nice little restaurant with good food. I ordered the scallops and they were cooked perfectly.

Westlake Village Nightlife

  • Party time at the Theatre

What to wear, what to wear. That will be the only problem if you go to a VIP Red Carpet Affair. Opening night of a Reading, Music, Play or Musical is a great night out. The community of Thousand Oaks, CA has one of the finest Civic Arts Plazas and top talent in all forms of art are presented year round. I attended the First Nighters VIP Founders...

Let me entertain you, shouts the outdoor Southern California lounge, "Bogie's". This is the "hot" night spot for Westlake Village. Private rooms, firepit, and fireplace tables ring the onyx bar. The outside view of the grounds with a pond and waterfall with the backdrop of the Westlake Village Golf Course is very lush. Dressy casual is the rule....

  • Happening Night Club at the Golf Course

What a nice club! There's usually a cover charge but if you host an event, I believe the guests get to come in at no charge (as we did). We were hosted in a private outdoor, closed off area with lots of couches which made it comfortable. Towards the inside of the bar, there is a huge dance floor and the music is pretty loud. I haven't been night...

Westlake Village Local Customs

  • Octoberfest at Stonehaus

Octoberfest is a great happy celebration time in Germany. Here in my home town we have a wonderful resort called the Westlake Village Inn where at the vineyard winery, Stonehaus, Octoberfest was celebrated for the first time and the plans are already in the works for next year. If you are in Southern California during October, look to see when...

Most of the locals believe they have a piece of heaven in their home. A city out in the country. This is the land of plenty for a few but still the young and restless try to find an abode in the area as well. There are some rentals and the prices are not on the kind side. Homes start in the middle income area and go up, way up from there. Westlake...

  • A Tree is a Tree, but a Bonsai is a Work...

What does Bonzai mean? That is the question many ask. So let us go to the pros and find the answer. The Conejo Valley Bonsai Society has a Mission Statement, which I quote: "The Conejo Valley Bonsai Society is an organization dedicated to promoting the ancient art of bonsai. Our mission is to educate, share knowledge, ideas, and available resources...

Westlake Village Warnings and Dangers

  • travelgourmet's Profile Photo

by travelgourmet Updated Sep 15, 2012

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

One main concern in Westlake Village is a brush fire. The dry windy air and the hot days of summer can spell more than danger, but pure trouble. The hills and brush that are all around Westlake Village become a fire hazard for the entire community.

So, please don't throw cigerette ashes or butts out of a vehicle. Don't play with fireworks or matches in our hills. We are on constant watch for smoke in the hills. That means trouble. That means where there is smoke, there is fire. Thank you for being careful and caring.

In 2012, we have been lucky so far, but a large brush fire has been on the other side of the mountain in the Pacific Palisades/Malibu area above the Will Rogers State Park. Please, again I ask you, to be careful with any flame, cigarettes, cigars, pipe, firepit, campfire any where in the Southern California area. Our scrub brush mountains go up in flames from the heat alone on many a day of late summer.

  • Opening Night at the Fred Kavli Theatre

OPENING NIGHT!. Light the lights! Things look grand. Look out, here comes the "Peanuts" gang in the Broadway Musical "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" presented by the Cabrillo Music Theatre of Thousand Oaks. Westlake Village is just a stones throw to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and the Fred Kavli Theatre. I was looking forward to this...

Hidden by the hills to the west of Westlake Village sits Lake Sherwood, a beautiful lake where once upon a time Robin Hood and his merry men pranced around for the movies. Aha, now we know how the area got it's name. Sherwood Forest was recreated here for the movie, "Robin Hood" starring Douglas Fairbanks, in 1922.This setting inspired David...

Westlake Village Sports & Outdoors

Westlake Village was the finish line for the Amgen Tour of California, an eight stage bicycle race with some of the top bikers from around the globe. Lance Armstrong was among the riders until an accident occurred on the sixth stage. He injured his left eye and required 8 stitches to close the wound and caused him to withdraw from the race. Stage...

Okay! Westlake Village has a public golf course! Yes, it's true. Some things can be enjoyed by all in Westlake Village. Not many public courses are left and this is one golf course that is a real pleasure to play. The 18 regulation holes are laid out so that they don't interfere with each other and the trees and water make this a challenge in a...
