This week-long July 4th celebration is the home of California's oldest continuous rodeo. 2004 marked its 78th year. For your enjoyment are CCPRA rodeos, street dances, barbecues, horseshows, a cowboy breakfast, the Black Bart Gunfighters, a parade, a carnival, gymkhana, junior rodeo, and more. This is the ultimate small town 4th of July celebration!
Willits Frontier Days is a non-profit organization complety run by volunteers living in the community. Most of the money raised at Frontier Days is distributed to other non-profits in the area, in addition to providing scholarships for some worthy high school seniors.

The Skunk Train travels through Redwood Forests, mountains, and meadows between Willits and Fort Bragg. The scenery is breathtaking!
Call ahead of time - I know the Fort Bragg station is still open. But, not to long ago the Willits portion of the railroad was closed. The plan was for it to be opened back up, but I don't know if that has happened or not.

The Brooktrails Golf Course. This breathtaking scenery is home to a 9 hole golf course which is open year round. Green fees are inexpensive & there is a small golf shop on the property offering snacks & supplies. Try not to hit the deer with the golf ball - they think the green was put there especially for them.

This is a great museum to learn about Mendocino County's past. Exhibits explain how the area was settled and includes Yuki and Pomo Indian basketry, objects recovered from the 1850 Frolic shipwreck and rare horse drawn vehicles. The museum is open Wednesday. through Sunday, 10am to 4:30pm. Admission is free.

Located next to the Mendocino County Museum, this outdoor display of working antique steam-powered logging equipment is an interesting and informative history lesson - especially for anyone into mechanics. Plus, it's a great place to get out and stretch your legs. Call ahead of time to ensure the museum is open. Sometimes they start the engines up, sometimes they don't - depends on what time of year, special events, etc. They're still cool to look at even when not running.

It's a small Chinese Restaurant with all-you-can eat style restaurant.
The owner/waitress was the owner of the restaurant and since they were almost closing, she allowed us to eat.
The food was okay.
I suggest to all roadtrip travelers to eat first before heading to the Redwood National Forest because then you can't find any available restaurants serving at night!
Favorite Dish: The food was not great. But, it's better than nothing. This restaurant was probably the last restaurant that we had seen on our trip before the Redwood National Forest.
I can't seem to find pictures but if I find them, I will post them.

We travel through Willits a lot. Living in Shelter Cove, the only way south to the bay area is US101 which passes through Willits. There are numerous restaurants in Willits, unfortunately we have not found any of unique quality...other than Bravo Taqueria, the only place we will eat at in Willits. Wide assortment of Mexican food, somewhat limited seating inside and very limited seating outside, on the sidewalk. Atmosphere is casual, can be noisy when the place is packed. Order at counter. Phone/take out also available.
Favorite Dish: Vegetarian burritos. Huge, with avacado, sour cream, chips & salsa. Abou $6.25
Bottled Mexican Coca Cola, about $1.70/ea
The Chicken Enchilado combo plate is also very good.

This restaurant is family owned & run - one of a kind. The food is soooooo good! The owners are great & provide good service too - your waiter/waitress will most likely be one of the family members. "El Mex" is almost always busy - but you'll be seated soon enough, the wait is never too long. This is a mexican restaurant in which you can order in spanish if you like - you'll get smiles from your server even if you mangle some words. Spanish is the family's first language, so don't be surprised to hear a few spanish words thrown into the conversation in place of english.
Favorite Dish: I have guacamole withdrawls if I don't frequent "El Mex" often enough. It's the kind with big huge chunks of avocado in it. I can eat a whole bowl all by myself :-) Of course, I can barely walk after dinner.
Everything is good! Beware - it's all A LOT of food. Especially the Grande Burrito - you can make three meals out of that one. I usually get two chicken soft tacos without the rice & beans (no room after all that guacamole).
Don't be surprised if they're closed for a couple of weeks in December. They usually close up shop & go visit relatives in Mexico for Christmas. There will be a handwritten sign taped to the window letting everyone know they're gone.

This little out of the way lunch spot is always crammed with locals trying to get their order in before the food dissappears. Really, the food ends up gone before you know it - especially on potato soup days!
If you plan on eating there - grab the first available seat you see, unless you want to stand. A waitress will come to your table - no need to go to the cash register to order unless you want your food to go.
Favorite Dish: They have excellent toasted sandwiches and the best potato soup ever. There are also some really good salad choices.
