Ahwahnee Bar: Great place for a drink

Ahwahnee Great Lounge

The Bar at the Ahwahnee is beautiful, offers both food and drinks and has an impressive wine list.

Have your drink in the Bar or take it to the beautiful Great Lounge with its enormous fireplace.

Dress Code: Casual. The dining room at dinner has a ban on jeans and men have to wear nice sweaters or a sports jacket, but the bar has no such rules.

Fire in the Sky: quiet nights are often best

sky goes red up by Cathedral Lakes

Yosemite has a lot of nightlife opportunities, more so than most National Parks. There are places to eat and even a few pubs. If you're looking for a beer or drink, you won't go thirsty. We had fun when in the Valley doing just that but our most memorable nights came when camping in the backcountry. When the sun was getting low and the sky would take on a very special hue, we knew all the effort to get there was well worth it.

Dress Code: Remember when at elevation, temperatures are considerably cooler. We could hang out in shorts in the Valley but in the mountains, needed our fleeces and warm hats to stay warm.

At night you can:

1) walk around and look at the stars - amazing!!

2) lie in your tent, read a book and listen to the acorns falling on your tent

3) watch one of the films they show in one of the amphitheaters (open air, as long as it is not too cold for that) - that may be about one of the hotels in the park, activities, or attractions like the giant sequoia trees (which I watched and inspired my for another visit!)

We camped for 4 nights and it is a necessity to put your food away in the boxes they provide, so the bear do not come around during nighttime!! (Rangers rule, or $100 penalty per cooler) We saw lots of deers, they are not scared at all but no bears!!

Your camp grounds: Make friends with the other campers

While your out hiking and on tours, find a couple other campers that seem like you'd get along with well and invite them to hang out by your bon-fire with you & your friends. You can meet some really fun people who are from fun places and get to hear some good stories.
