The Sierra National Forest surrounds the southern edge of Yosemite National Park. When entering Yosemite from Mariposa on Rt 140, you will pass through a little portion of the northwest corner of the forest. Covering 1.3 million acres the forest reserve was founded on 14 February 1893 and includes opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing, camping and skiing.
