As we traveled along Highway 41 to the Tenaya Lodge, we passed Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. It was leaving the station, on its way to a scenic trip through the Sierra National Forest. We were hoping to be on that train!
I had picked up a brochure earlier and noticed THE MOONLIGHT SPECIAL, which is only offered on Saturday and Wednesday evenings with a 6:30 pm departure. This sounded like a real treat, but we didn't arrive early enough to board on time.
The cost for this particular trip would have been $45 for adults and $22.50 for children 3-12, which includes a steak/bbq dinner and a melodrama that evening.
You also have an opportunity to try two other options:
The Jenny Railcar--This is a Model A railcar once used for logging and track repair crews. Tickets for a 30 minute ride are $13 for adults; $6.50 for kids 3-12
The Logger Steam Train--Ride in a authentic steam powered Shay locomotive over the same tracks logging trains once used. Tickets for a one hour narrated journey are $17 for adults' $8.50 for kids 3-12.
