This is a 55 mile drive north that connects Central City and Estes Park. If looking to see both this is the drive for you. It's far more interesting then taking 36 through Boulder. The drive passes Rocky Mountain National Park, Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, and Eldora Ski Resort. Allow at least 2 hours. You may want to stop at Nederland and Ward along the way, both neat little towns filled with history. The ghost towns of Hesse and Apex are also just off the byway and well worth a stop.

This is an abandoned gold mine. It's very cool. It's just a mile or so outside of Central City. It's worth it to drive up, but don't go poking around too much. It is on private property and the buildings are unstable, but it can be viewed from the road.

Six of the seven cemeteries are grouped together just northwest of town. Many graves date back to the gold mining days. They're very beatiful and just a quick jump from. They're worth a quick stop.

Nevadaville was born in 1859 by miners. It was once home to 6,000 people. It survived into the 1930s, but today is a geniue ghost town.
