Though Colorado Springs airport is a large and growing air terminal, Denver can sometimes be less expensive as it is a major hub for United Airlines. From Colorado Springs, it is located about an hour to 1.5 hours away, up I-25 then 410 loop on the west of the city.
BTW ... DIA's best restaurant is a small Mexican place called Que Buena. They have tacos, quesadillas, burritos, Mexican beers, and even margaritas!

Colorado Springs (COS) is a regional airport which serves multiple different hubs throughout the US. It is easy and convienent for Colorado residents that are south of Denver to get in and out of the I-25 corridor easily.
I have flown in here several times, and it seems to be less tedious than its northern neighbor, DEN.
I used American Airlines twice, once from DFW and once from ORD (Chicago).
The following airlines service COS:
Allegiant Air
American
Continental
Delta
ExpressJet
Midwest Airlines
Northwest
United
US Airways / America West

Well to get to Colorado Springs, you can do a few things.
1. Fly directly in from Dallas or Houston or wherever.
2. Fly in from Denver.
3. Bus (Greyhound) from Denver or Pueblo or wherever you are coming from.
4. Car.
If you have a car, the streets are pretty straightforward, at least in downtown COS. When you get to some of the side streets, well, that's another story. There is I-25, the expressway (north-south) and a bunch of other major roads going whereever you need to go. Ask me for more details on how to get places if you want!
COS has a decent bus system, which is fairly clean and which I have some experience with. The station is downtown I think on Nevada Ave., and the buses go pretty much all over the major areas of town, as well as some of the smaller areas.
Biking is common here, so there are plenty of trails in the area.

We drove from Minnesota where we live. There's not much to see going the fastest route, so if you can afford it, fly there.
Motorcycle is the best way to see the mountains, I think. We drove our car, but I've been there on my Harley in 1987, and it was great.

There is a nice mid-sized airport right outside of town.
Car is the only way go.

I suggest you go by car. If you fly in you miss a lot of things. But that is only my thought. :)
Make sure that your car is running good if you plann on going into the mountains.
By car. We didnt see any busses aroud, so I do not know how there busses are.

At Royal Gorge you can take these nice cable cars and glide over the gorge and stare straight down to the river! That is if you work up the nerve to look out the window.

Don't plan on taking the bus places. The routes are limited and there just aren't that many buses around. Getting anywhere means getting in the car.
