Craig is a decent sized town of about 9000 (down 2% since 2000) located at the intersection of US Highway 40 and Colorado Highway 13 in Northwest Colorado. Craig was established in 1908 and was named for one of the backers of the formation of the town Reverend William Craig. Craig is known for coal and for the largest power plant in the state along with the largest elk herd in the country. Craig is the county seat of Moffat County. Moffat County was named for David Moffat a well-known Colorado businessman who died in 1911, the year the county was formed.
