Barracuda Cafe: Barracudas Can be Nice

by Seabiscuit Written Sep 12, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well, I'm kind of biased about the Barracuda, mainly because, it's the only place I go anymore. Their menu is so full of everything, Tex-Mex, Italian, American among others. Breakfast is way more than one can eat (split it with a Friend, definately).

Even when it's full (which isn't too often) the wait-staff is magnificent. The food has been spectacular for the years I've gone there. Never, and I mean never, have I or anyone I've taken, had a bad meal. (And if you get the Waitress, black hair worn in a bun) tell her Jeff says HELLO! (I'm also known as "The Guinness Guy").

btw, The pictures are of me, my Sister Kelly and my Nephew Tyler enjoying a lunch there - ambiance photo.

Favorite Dish: The cheese enchilada plate with all the sides (Guacamole, onions, tomatoes, sour cream) and a beef taco are perennial favourites. Dinner - Steaks to perfection, seafood is magnificent. Even their veggie sandwich is superb. (If I sound like I'm gushing, it's because I am!)

And, they have Guinness. 'nuff said.

The Bank Restaurant and Pub: All the World's a Cage

by Seabiscuit Updated Sep 12, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Built in a restored bank (Capitol Hill State Bank), The Bank Restaurant is unique with it's offerings of gastronomic fare. Everything from "Bar-Fare" to really great burgers, salads, seafood among many other tasty meals. Great place to take out-of-town Friends. Very pleasant staff, and usually fairly open (people-wise) for an early supper/dinner.

    Live music pert-near every evening.

Favorite Dish: The Bank has a five star-rated burger-as-you-wish option. My tried and true favourite is the Bleu Cheese / White Cheddar with Guacamole Burger. (It sounds really gross, but it's fantastic). Choice of fries, chips, cole-slaw. (Wasn't too crazy about the cole-slaw, but ask for Wine Vinegar on the side for the fries/chips). A guaranteed meal to peel the percails off the perch in a few hours. (Sleep alone - go with me on this).

Yes, they too have Guinness. (Wouldn't have it any other way!)

    Panera Bread: Great sandwiches

    by sue&gene Updated Aug 18, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A guide in the Capitol suggested we try Panera Bread for lunch. It is in walking distance of the State Capitol and is a bakery and deli. It seemed to be a popular lunch stop.

Favorite Dish: I had a sandwich and my sister tried a salad. Both were delicious.

    Jerusalem: Excellent Middle Eastern Food!

by tejanasueca Updated Nov 12, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This small restaurant might not look like much, but it has received several awards for top Middle Eastern Restaurant in Denver. It has a nice little patio where you can sit and just chill with your friends. An added plus is that Jerusalem is ALWAYS open. Well, I'm sure it closes some time, but I have had "dinner" there after 2am on several occasions. It's the place to go after a night out on the town, as an option to the regular breakfast places that are open all night.

Favorite Dish: While the regular entrees offer you more food than you can eat, you also have to pay for it. I usually opt for some kind of Gyro. They are reasonably priced ($3-4) and they fill me up.

Rio Grande: Denver's Best (and strongest) Margaritas!

by tejanasueca Updated Nov 12, 2005

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As this restaurant is downtown, a lot of people go here before they go out, so it's not that chill. However, the food is pretty good, and the margaritas are awesome! Be aware though, do not drink more than a couple of margaritas, they are a lot stronger than they taste (and the affects of that will be very noticeable especially if you are coming from out of town and is not used to the altitude.

Stella's Coffee Haus: Best of South Pearl Coffee Houses

by atufft Written May 1, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There actually are several good places to get coffee in South Pearl (e.g. Pajama Baking Company), but Stella's Coffee Haus remains the leader for ambiance and service. As the website says, the old house coffee shop with patio and rooms inside has many comfortable nooks and crannies for meditative study while sipping coffee or tea. There is free WIFI, but ask for the password. Artwork and creative interior design is a feature here, making the place a favorite hang out for college students and young professionals. A lot of the art is available for sale, as it is primarily the work of emerging artists in the area. Stella's also has a program of live music, and a great menu. It's a good place to buy bags of ground coffee or tea. I purchase a large latte to go and a slice of fresh apple pie, then sat on the patio near a charcoal fired warmer, where I could watch people walk by as I played with my iPad.

Pearl Street Grill: Live Music and Good Local Brewed Beer

by atufft Written May 1, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place has an eclectic collection of American recipes that mix in international flavors as the chef wants. They serve a buffalo burger, and have a rotisserie with pork and chicken. As the country folk band played, I cupped my ear to hear the specials, then ordered a pint of the Mile Hi Pale Ale. I selected a pork loin that was served with a tropical mango salsa. My buddy ordered a burger. Price for two was $30- not including tip, which wasn't bad considering the quality of the beer I had ordered. See link below for more details. The images are taken in a low light situation, so please forgive the unpleasant colors...

Bistro Vendome: Larimer Street Patio French

by atufft Written May 1, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It's hard to imagine good French in Denver, but his place was pretty good. Actually, the food was more a combination of fresh produce California style mixed with some French style food. The wine list was a mixture of French and California wines, and priced about right by the glass. I ordered a French Sauvignon Blanc, a plate full of mussels, and the special, a Crepe de Jour. My friend ordered the special also. The patio dining of this place is off the street, so the noise of Larimer is not a nuisance. This was lunch, and though it was only April, the weather was warm enough. There's also dining inside. Overall the atmosphere for this place was really good. Service was very good, but the waiter was inexperienced with respect to the wine list. The price for two was very reasonable at about $40- including tip.

Oodles: Asian style noodles in cute neighborhood!

by tejanasueca Updated Nov 12, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is the cutest little restaurant only 10min south of downtown Denver. It has a good selection of...well, noodles. You can either buy a "bowl" (really a plate full that will more than fill you up), with very reasonable prices, or a regular entree. Enjoy this with a nice bottle of wine. Outside seating facing a cute and quite street in the summer, and nice relaxing atmosphere inside during the winter.

Favorite Dish: Well, the bowls are good and fit my budget (about $10). The larger entrees (up to $20) are also well prepared. Really, just pick what fits your budget and your mood; everything is good. Vegetarian meals provided.

    Pasquini's: European Style Pizza

This pizza place offers European Style pizza. Instead of choosing if you want pepperoni and extra cheese, at Pasquini's you decide if you want extra cured ham and feta cheese on your pizza. You get a chose of several toppings on your pizza, these just happen to be the once I like.

    Ocean Pacific: Authentic Chinese Food

by tejanasueca Updated Oct 6, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place offers authentic Chinese food, and not just the "American Chinese" alternative. I had a roommate from Taiwan for a few months, and according to him, this was the best real Chinese food in all of Denver. So, don't expect to be given fortune cookies after your meal, instead experience sweet melon soup.

Cool River Cafe: Top 10 Meal EVER...

    by cjg1 Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a place were we went for dinner on a recommendation. I did not know at the time that it was a chain but it was quite good. We ate in the general main dining area where we were able to relax, people watch, and have a great meal.

    And so I say....

    Favorite Dish: WOW! WOW! WOW!

I eat. Its what I do. The food at this place blew my mind. I had an off menu special of Filet Mignon stuffed with crab meat. It was covered with a cream sauce. Having ordered it medium it was the greatest steak I've had in years outside of Argentina. Paired with a Pinot Noir it was a great meal.

Mimi's Cafe: Good "home style" meals

by rexvaughan Updated Feb 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a chain of restaurants mostly in the western states, but a very pleasant one and we had a delicious meal here. The facility is quite large with a lovely lobby/reception area, large bar and spacious dining room. The decor tends to be kitchsy French which is a bit strange as the menu is pretty basic American traditional - pot roast, meatloaf, pot pie, etc. However, the surroundings are attractive and clean and the staff pleasant and efficient.

Favorite Dish: The chicken pot pie is some of the best I have eaten. The crust always tells the story and this is traditional pastry, not the flimsy puff pastry that many places use. This one had some body without being heavy and a wonderful flavor and texture. The filling was wonderful with nice chunks of white meat.

The Caesar salad was crisp and well dressed.
