Fireworks At Coors Field
  • Tip Rating:
  • From time to time, games at Coors Field are ended with fireworks and that spectacular show alone is worth the admission to the game even if you are not a baseball fan.

We were there when this happened, and it was wonderful to know that the visitors who spent the least amount of money on admission (us!), bought the rock pile tickets (us!), sat at the nosebleed benches (us!) were the ones who were invited onto the field to watch the show. That was not a special treatment however, we needed to leave our benches because the fireworks were shot off from behind that area, the organizers would not want to have anything happened to the cheap fans who may want to sue for unspecified damage.

Being on the field on game day is a wonderful feeling even after the game is already over. Being on the field on a game day watching fireworks is even a better feeling. With the highest quality and best kept grass under your feet or your back, with your body stretching out on the best seats in the house, with hundreds of flaming flowers in dozens of colours bursting on the deep dark sky in front of you and above you, if that were not the best value for a $4 rock pile admission, I don’t know what is.

If time permits, you should try to see a game in Coors Field. This stadium is the home of the Rockies, perhaps one of the least likely to success teams in the MLB, but that prediction doesn't faze their fans one bit. Game days in Coors Field is the same as game days at the Yankee or Dodgers Stadium where fans fill the seats to cheer their home team and boos whomever happens to be their visitors. It's all in sport fun even when raspberries are given! :)

When in Coors Field, you should pay attention to one particular row of seat on the upper deck. It's easy to recognize the 20th row because the seats on that row are the only ones painted purple, while the rest of the stadium's seats are painted green. The different colour indicates the elevation of the seats: exactly one mile above sea level.

    Denver the bike friendly city?
  • Tip Rating:
  • I remember riding my bike to work in Portland. Yes the weather is not as good as Denver but in Portland when you are on a bike, you are a car if you believe you are a car. Denver has lots of bike paths, has beautiful weather, but I wouldn't dare ride my bike on the streets like I would in Portland.

In Denver it's the rule of the big. The bigger you are the more of a right you have. You will get pushed and intimidated off the road.

In Portland I would just kick the car door if they tried anything.

    A bike and a helmet.

Nice area to go mountain biking, hiking, or trail running just 20min away from downtown Denver. The area has several trails for different levels and purposes. The peak of Green Mountain is at 6588ft. Hike up there and get a good view of Denver, especially later during the day.

If you plan on mountain biking, don't forget to bring a spare tube. It is not fun to have to walk in your biking shoes for several miles (I would know!!!)

    Those Running and Gunning Nuggs
  • Tip Rating:
  • Playing inside the Pepsi Center for home games are the Denver Nuggets of the NBA. The Nuggets are what you would call a "rebuilding" franchise. The General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe is building a product that is capable of both winning games and is also fun to watch. Utilizing Denver's rarified air the concept employed is to run the visitors up and down the court, and out of breath.

If the Nuggets keep it up this will be one of the hottest tickets in Denver.

Nosebleed seats start at 10 dollars a pop and work up to over 100 dollars for lower level. If you are in need of lower level tickets (for a price) that you are told are sold out to season ticket holders just look for the people outside who are "buying" tickets.

    Or ask me - I have a hook-up.

They do perform a bag check at the gate. You are not allowed to bring food or drinks (including water) into the Pepsi Center.

    Run/Walk/Bike/Fish/Chill in Washington Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Washington Park, or just "Wash Park," is located just 10-15min south of downtown, and even though I-25 passes just to the south of the park, it has a very relaxing atmosphere. The park is located in a calm neighborhood and is a favorite location for people living in the area, and other parts of Denver, to have picnic, play sports, ride your bike, rollerblade, run, or walk. It has a two mile paved bike/rollerblade path, and a slightly longer dirt walk/jogging path. There are a couple of small water gatherings with fish in it, play areas, picnic tables, and shady trees.

There are plenty of grills in the park that you can use on a first come first serve basis. However, you can also reserve a picnic area (about $40), and if somebody shows up that have done so, you have to move (personally, there has never been a time where there has been no room even if I didn't reserve a spot).

Watch the Rockies at Coors field
  • Tip Rating:
  • Coors field is home to the Major League Baseball Colorado Rockies. Being in the National League west division the most common opponents are the Dodgers, Giants, Diamondbacks, and Padres. The stadium is a brick throwback to the old style, oozing an aura that screams for a future legacy and excellent views of the Rocky Mountains at sunset. Tickets range from 3 to 40 dollars and can be purchased up to Game time at the stadium box office. Beer and other concessions on the other hand can be pretty expensive - expect to pay 5 to 6 dollars for a mass produced pint. The season runs from early April to the end of September. I always hope the Rockies extend this by going to the playoffs.

Bring sunglasses at all times. You may want to bring sunscreen for those day games.

    Invesco Field at Mile High
  • Tip Rating:
  • Eight Sunday afternoons each fall 76,000 football fans jam this stadium to watch their beloved Denver Broncos play football. If all goes well during the regular season fans might get to see two additional (playoff) games during the month of January.
