At a historical marker and welcome sign along the highway that runs through Eads visitors can stop and see this small sculpture called "Kindred Spirits." It depicts the pioneer women who first settled the high plains of eastern Colorado. Beside the statue is an interpretative display which tells some of the history of this sparcely settled area.

The sculpture, by Shalah Perkins, may be purchased. At the base of the statue is this inscription:

    KINDRED SPIRITS

    THEIR LIVES MADE KINDRED SPIRITS
OF THOSE WOMEN OF THE WEST
THEY SHARED THE PAIN AND JOY
    OF AMERICA'S CONQUEST.

THEY PROVE THEIR STRENGTH AND COURAGE
    WITH RAW INTENSITY
RAISED A FAMILY IN THE WILD
    THROUGH GREAD ADVERSITY.

I'M PROUD OF EVERY OUNCE OF BLOOD
THAT COMES FROM THEM TO ME
    THE EXAMPLE OF AMERICA
AS IT WAS AND IS TO BE.
