Grand Lake Boat Ride and Island Picnic

Grand Lake Boat Ride and Island Picnic, Grand Lake

mpowelson Says:  One of the joys of living in Denver or just visiting is the wealth of summer activities. One great day trip is to visit Trail Ridge Marina, in Grand County. The marina is located in Grand Lake, Colorado with access to Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake. The marina rents...

Kauffman House

Kauffman House, Grand Lake

Tom_Fields Says:  This historic house was built by the Kauffman family in 1892. The family made it into a hotel, and so it remained until 1946. It's the only 19th century log cabin left in Grand Lake. Docents dressed in period costumes show visitors around the house and explain life in the...

Gateway to Rocky Mtn Ntl. Park

Gateway to Rocky Mtn Ntl. Park, Grand Lake

Callavetta Says:  Grand Lake is the town closest to the Western entrance to RMNP. In the summer visitors can drive through the park to the Eastern entrance, Estes Park. But in winter Trail Ridge Road, the 12,000 foot pass is closed. There is still plenty to do and see before getting to the...

Grand Lake Lodge: Just oustside of Grand Lake,..., Grand Lake

basstbn Says:  Just outside of Grand Lake, barely within the boundaries of the Rocky Mountain National Park, is Grand Lake Lodge. The lodge sits high above Grand Lake and the view from the lobby and porch, as well as the swimming pool is stunning. There are no accommodations in the lodge...

Restaurants

Grand Lake Brewery: Excelent small brew pub.

Grand Lake Brewery: Excelent small brew pub., Grand Lake

charlesracine Says:  Normal pub food with a great selection of their own brews. The last time I was there there were ten different on tap and favorite one to start with is "Plaid Bastard" a Scottish style with an excellent smooth taste.

Sagebrush BBQ and Grill: "The Peanut Place"

Sagebrush BBQ and Grill: "The Peanut Place", Grand Lake

Callavetta Says:  The Sagebrush BBQ and Grill is a very casual place with a large assortment of BBQ items. Every table has a large bucket of peanuts and guests are encouraged to throw the shells on the floor. Tables have plastic cow print table cloths and the decor is very old west oriented;...

Rocky Mountain Coffee Company: Cup of Joe, Grand Lake

Etoile2B Says:  Rocky Mountain Coffee Company is another cute little coffee house in town. They’re open early and have great coffee!

Poncho & Leftys: Margaritas by the Lake

Poncho & Leftys: Margaritas by the Lake, Grand Lake

Etoile2B Says:  Poncho and Leftys is always packed. During the high season expect to wait. But there is a large bar area and an outdoor patio where you can have a margarita while you’re waiting for your table. They specialize in Mexican food, but I must admit, the food isn’t that great. If...

Grand Lake Lodge Restaurant: Restaurant With a View

Grand Lake Lodge Restaurant: Restaurant With a View, Grand Lake

Etoile2B Says:  The food at the Grand Lake lodge is nothing special, but the views from the restaurant are gorgeous and the waitstaff is friendly. They also have a large brunch in the mornings and plenty of seating.

Grand Pizza: Yummy Pizza

Grand Pizza: Yummy Pizza, Grand Lake

Etoile2B Says:  Grand Pizza is hands-down the best pizza in town. It blows the pizza from the bowling alley out of the water. It’s also pricier than any other pizza in town, but well worth it. I’m not sure if they deliver or not. My guess would be no. It’s a very small town. But it’s easy...

Black Bear: Cafe by the Lake

Black Bear: Cafe by the Lake, Grand Lake

Etoile2B Says:  Black Bear Bakery is a great little place by the lake to get your morning coffee and perhaps a muffin for breakfast. You can take it to go or dine there. They also serve sandwiches and lunch fare. I loved getting that first cup of coffee and taking a walk by the lake.

Cascades of the Rockies

On the main drag in town you'll find Cascades. A rustic gift shop specializing in local arts and crafts, bath and body luxuries, and books by local writers. The local staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The gifts found here are well-priced and very unique. If you're looking to take a little bit of this quaint mountain town home with you look no further than Cascades.

What to buy: I bought a fantastic hand blown goblet, unlike anything I've ever seen before, made by a local artist. My mom found an unique frame to take home and showcase a picture from our Rocky Mountain adventures.

What to pay: My goblet was $15 US.

Callavetta Says:  This is an example of the many local places to stay in the town. In the winter, you can park your snowmobile right out front. I haven't stayed in the town overnight so I can't comment on the quality of any of the accommodations, but several of them looked quite tempting.

Columbine Lake

Columbine Lake is located near Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park. It's a small lake bordered by cabins - mostly residential. On an average summer day you can find neighbors out on the lake in canoes, fishing off the numerous piers or just relaxing on the shore. The community house has a pool and game room, but is only available for residents of the community. It's a peaceful neighborhood conducive to kayaking, hiking and 4 wheeling. It's a wonderful retreat from the chaos of everyday life.
