Guffey Off The Beaten Path

  • by avril4 Written Nov 30, 2008

Coming into Guffey from any direction is like stepping back in time. This tiny town situated at 8600 feet became a center of prospecting activity until it was discovered there was little gold in the Freshwater Mining District, resulting in a sharp decline in the town’s population. Guffey is now a unique mountain community with a secluded, small-town feeling located off the beaten path. Guffey boasts blue skies, fresh air, refreshing drinking water, and Colorado’s famous sunshine. The surrounding area offers opportunities for camping, boating, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, white water rafting, hiking, and many other recreational activities. If a place exists that may be considered “genuine Colorado,” Guffey is such a place.
