Meeker is a small town of about 2500 (up 12% since 2000) located along Colorado Highway 13 in Northwest Colorado. The town was founded in 1883 and was named for U. S. Indian Agent Nathan Meeker who was killed by White River Ute Indians during the 1879 Meeker Massacre. Meeker is the county seat of Rio Blanco (White River) County. Rio Blanco County was named for the White River which flows through the county. The impressive Rio Blanco County Courthouse was completed in 1935.
