    Building of the pithouse

Pithouses burnt a lot, and some of them were built on the place of another, so archeologists found some pithouses in layers.

In the most of dwellings notice how black ceilings are. This is due to fires that dwellers had to cook food or warm up during winters.

Mesa Verde can be also a place for watching wild animals and birds. I had a chance to take a picture of ravens, deer, turkey, and eagle, I assume.

    Overlook in Mesa Verde NP

Point Lookout is about 2 miles from US Rotue 160. Here there is a great panaramic view of the nearby San Juan Mountains. It is a nice 5 minute stop on the way to the dwellings of Mesa Verde.
