Strasburg and the Museum - FREE

by Basaic Written Aug 11, 2015

Strasburg is a rapidly growing town of about 2500 (up 75% since 2000) located at the intersection of Interstate 70 and U.S. Highway 36 in Adams and Arapahoe Counties in Northeast Colorado. Strasburg began as Comanche Crossing and was the site of a ferry which rail passengers had to use. The town claims that since the crossing was by boat the actual “completion” of the Transcontinental Railroad was NOT the Golden Spike in Utah but was here a bit afterwards. This claim is in dispute. The main thing to do in Strasburg is go to the Comanche Crossing Museum which details the history of the town and the change of the crossing from boat to train. The actual crossing is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is open from 1 PM to 4 PM daily from June through August. Admission is FREE.
