    Manitou Springs

by Astrobuck Updated May 17, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This town located outside of Colorado Springs is definately a tourist trap. There are miles of shops throughout the town. Everything from the Mystical New Age Mumbo-Jumbo to T-shirts, this place has it all. Just be careful...some shops are a bit pricey.

Unique Suggestions: Just look around at what they have before you buy. There are some nice things here, but just be sure some of it is good quality.

    The Summit House

by Astrobuck Written Oct 2, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As disappointing as it is, the Summit House at the top of Pike's Peak is, in fact, a tourist trap.....

    Sample prices you will find:
    Small pizza - $7.25
    Gatorade (20 oz) - $2.25
    Average T-shirt price: $18.50

And, yes, I fell into the trap and bought a Christmas Tree ornament for $8.50!
(Yes, I also know I am a sucker, so don't rub it in!!)

Unique Suggestions: Only get something if you really want it or get something for someone else.

Fun Alternatives: Go outside and pick you up a free rock!

Garden of the Gods Trading Post

by Astrobuck Written May 17, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Yep, definately a tourist trap. You can find anything in here you can possibly imagine. Heck, there's even a section with nothing but Native American artifact replicas and paintings!! Smashed penny machine, license plate keychains, high priced snack bar.....well, you get the picture!

Unique Suggestions: Get something unique that you can either use or give to someone as a gift. The Native American paintings are VERY nice, but are a little pricey.

Fun Alternatives: Just browse and get an idea of something you either can get cheaply or make to allow your Colorado vacation to be memorable.

    Rocky Mountain National Park...

by ViolinGirl Written Aug 25, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Rocky Mountain National Park can be a big tourist trap depending on what time of year you go, and what time of day you hike, etc. To achieve the lowest stress level, be sure to reserve your campsite well in advance through the National Park system if staying within the park, and hike early in the day to avoid the crowds. Summertime, of course, is the busiest time to visit--my sister who works in the park recommends late May and early June (although you may still run into some snow) or early fall.

Cave of the Winds. It offers a legitimate service, but it is over priced, the knowledge + speaking skill of your guide is hit-n-miss, and the basic tour has so many man-made features - hand rails, poured concrete steps, etc. that it loses the feel of being in a natural cave.

  • Pueblo Riverwalk -- Walk, don't Float

    by j7286 Written May 18, 2006

For a small fee (I believe it was only $5.00) my daughter and I hopped aboard a sightseeing barge on the 'Arkansas River' right in downtown Pueblo. Well, it turns out we were only on a small body of water, closed off on all sides by pedestrian sidewalks, and our guide merely steered the boat down one side of this 'ditch' then steered us right back again. We were treated mostly to the sight of people staring at us from the walkways, as they pondered what the heck we were doing out in this little 'river' on such a big conspicous boat. An Arkansas River boat trip this ain't.

Unique Suggestions: Small children would probably get a kick out of being on this boat -- it's similar to riding around in an amusement park, only the boat is quite big. It doesn't cost much, which is a good thing. The guide was knowledgeable about the history of downtown Pueblo, though a walking tour would have been more enlightening.

Fun Alternatives: The alternative is to simply walk down the River Walk, and then you can stare at the strange tourists sitting out on the water in that big boat going nowhere.

    ALL SEASONS ADVENTURES

    by msolive69 Updated Jul 28, 2011

Yeah the owner is a joke! Rents us 2 two seater Polaris atvs. Drops them off on trailhead that they use all the time. Employee goes thru the motions about operating them, p.s. this guy was great! My wife two kids and I are on trail 30 mins and her atv blows a tire! I go back down trail trying to get cell service to call rental place.... no luck. Stop at every campsite looking for air pump... finally get one. Get back to wife and son... big puncture in tire. Looks like its been plugged before! Waste half my time (booked for 3 hours) trying to get their machine back down trail! Get back to trail parking lot and send wife down the road to call atv company. Take two kids on different trail and blow tire on other atv! Get atvs loaded and go back to company and am informed its our fault tires blew out and we owe them roughly $325 for 2 new tires! WTF! We paid $260 for the rentals that we hardly even used and he's brow beating us for replacing his bad tires! BS! This place is a JOKE! Stopped at a difft company up the road who said blown tires are part of the business!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU DONT WANT TO GET SCAMMED! www.allseasonsrentals.com

Unique Suggestions: DO NOT TAKE YOUR BUSINESS HERE!

Fun Alternatives: Plenty of other companies in the area. ASK specific questions about breakdowns and blowouts and what the procedure is!

by WDWisfun Written Aug 26, 2002

Elitch Gardens. I generally enjoy Amusement Parks but Elitch Gardens cost too much and didn't have that much to offer. Pretty standard rides and water park. It's an okay way to spend some time if nothing else to do. I guess when there are so many natural attractions to be had in the state that this one just doesn't seem to matter.

Any of the Casino towns in Colorado

by merimichelle Written May 18, 2003

The casino towns in Colorado! But you know what? What place with a casino isn't a tourist trap!

Unique Suggestions: Still a lot of fun if you like to gamble! But if you plan on drinking plan on staing at one of the hotels up there because the ride back to a main city is a long and twisty road!

Fun Alternatives: Well for me....since I like the outdoors there are many historical sites and nice trails near all of these old gold mine towns! Walk around and you'll find a nice local that will filll you in or look in the guide book! :)

I think it was a little town called Dinosaur, which had a dinosaur exhibition. The photo's pretty funny, but the dino's looked really fake! I'm sure they can do much better than this!
