Glastonbury Things to Do

Our great grandson's party was here at this farm and the GPS got us there. We didn't see the handicapped parking and Bob didn't think the scooter would work on grass, but the Luggie scooter does OK on grass. There were pumpkins, a petting zoo, a corn maze, hay rides (pulled by tractors), things to climb on, a pumpkin moon bounce (which was wet from the rain and so was supposed to be closed), and kids everywhere in strollers, car seats and on various wheeled kiddie car type vehicles as well as running around. We didn't see anyone we knew but I asked and they said our party was behind the moon bounce.

It was cool - they had apple cider, apples and all the activities to do. There were 10 children of pre-school age and associated parents.

Their website says Fall Festival offers Hayrides, a 2 acre Corn Maze, a petting zoo with baby chicks, a 24' Pumpkin Bounce, Working tractors on display to sit on.
Plenty of parking and room to play!

The menu is Brazilian influenced. They have 6 kinds of Ceviche, which is usually fish cold cooked with citrus juices, often lemon. Lots of interesting appetizers and entries. Also, the bar is a great place to have a drink and do some people watching. The staff are pretty friendly too.

    Favorite Dish: Roasted Pork Anticuchos

What to buy: Fresh Local Apples from our South Glastonbury Orchard

    Apple Varieties:

Macintosh- The fall standard. Excellent for applesauce. Gets sweeter as the season goes on.
Cortland-our favorite pie apple: a bit tart and keeps it's shape in cooking. Good for baking.
Empire- a beautiful apple! Almost purple in color. Keeps well. Ripens later in the season: last week in Sept to the first week in Oct. Crisp and sweet.
Macoun- crisp, white flesh. Excellent eating. Our most popular eating apple. Needs cool nights to ripen. Watch the website for ripening times. Approx. 3rd week in September.
Honey Crisp - A “Gourmet Apple” crisp, juicy and sweet. Try it and you’ll be hooked! Limited quantity. Watch the website for ripening times! Get them early because this apple sells out every season! This apple stores well in the refrigerator. I have tested this one and so far the apples have been excellent for 3 months in the fridge. Research has shown they will keep up to 6 months. We haven’t made it that long in our house, we eat them too soon!
Heritage Golden Delicious: This apple doesn't have the shine we have gotten used to seeing on the apples these days, but the sweetness of this apple is delightful! A true oldie but goodie. A mottled skin that hides a juicy, flavorful taste.
