Greenwich Things to Do

  • Bow Tie Plaza 3

This is one of those threatre chains that is not the main one in town. A smaller selection than the giants they make up for it by having matinee prices until 5pm on most days including Saturday. Have only been here once so far. Saw Harry Potter 5 for the second time here.

  • Bruce Museum

The Bruce Museum is featured in 1000 Things to See Before You Die: USA Edition. It's well known for Connecticut's Art Trail. I visited on a Tuesday when admission was FREE. When you enter you can continue straight ahead to the art area or head right for the science exhibits. The art exhibits I saw were paintings of sailboats and then another larger...

  • St. Paddy's Parade

Every year Greenwich has a St. Patrick's Day Parade (for some reason it's always after the holiday, it was held on March 22nd). Liz and I decided to meet up with some of her friends to hang out and watch the parade down Greenwich Avenue. It was my first time at the parade. The parade is definitely more genteel than NYC with only a few drunken...

  • Charming downtown

I used to love the Mom & Pop businesses along Greenwich Ave. Movies dinner al fresco was always a treat. Recently, I've noticed the family owned businesses have been closing & mall chain stores have come in; a big disappointment!

Planet Pizza is a typical pizza joint with some tables. They serve a variety of sandwiches, salads, calzones, pastas, italian dishes and pizza of course. The menu has a variety of classic pizzas such as pepperoni, mushroom and sausage as well as specialty pizza like baked ziti pizza, sicilian pizza and buffalo chicken pizza. We often find...

  • Burgers Shakes n Fries

This place is tiny. They have two counters and that's it for seating areas but the food is amazing. I am so glad I finally tried this place.I assure you the burgers here are worth the trip as I have learned. We are constantly coming back about once a week now and really have to say that now that I have settled on the products here I like the...

  • Mackenzie's Grill Room

Neither Liz and I had been to Mackenzie's before but were set to meet up with some friends for drinks. We decided to get here early and grab a bite to eat. The place was in a strip mall which I let slide since I have been to good places before that were in bad locations. The bar area was tiny and the dining room was even smaller. We were seated at...

  • Thataway Cafe

The service here is hit or miss. The waste of time at the hostess station rates right up there with the redsox fans. Well I've been back here again and again and my stance stays. The hostesses here are clueless and honestly quite bad. Where they suggest to seat you is without thought and flatly idiotic. I could really do without them. But once...

Panda Pavillion is right over the border from Portchester on Route 1(Putnam Avenue) so it's very easy to get here. The place is small with tables scattered throughout the dining room. Sundown Saloon to me is the kind of place I wish were my local, at least when I wanted to have a local. Monday to Friday from 4pm until 7pm some drafts are $2 and most appetizers...

  • Glory Days Diner

Glory Days is a typical town diner. It's a small place but they get you seated rather quickly. The menu is filled with typical diner food options such a BLT's, pancakes, milkshakes, eggs etc. The food is basic diner quality nothing special. The burgers are okay but why come here when you have Burgers, Shakes and Fries five minutes away.

  • Metro North Railroad

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

One of the first things I noticed in Greenwich is the lack of traffic lights down Greenwich Avenue. Many of the intersections have no traffic lights but have a police officer directing traffic. Fortunately for the cop, Greenwich Avenue is a one way street. It's just amazing to think auch a large avenue has no traffic lights and relys on police and stop signs (in off hours).

Greenwich Favorites

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Greenwich indeed is the wealthiest town in the United States. Some institutions, etc may have it rated at number two or three, but in fact there are more Business and Political leaders located in Greenwich than anywhere else in the country. It is a town to be proud of to say the least. There is virtually no crime, and the town is only a forty minute train ride from Manhattan's Grand Central Station. Greenwich Avenue only a blocks walk from the Train is the Rodeo Drive of the East Coast with stores as Tiffany's, Sakes Fifth Ave, etc lining its broad sparkling clean sidewalks. There are restaurants of many international cuisines, movie theaters, jewelry stores, and much more on this incredible Avenue of the Rich and Famous. Dianna Ross, Andy Rooney, Mel Gibson, are just a few of the celebrities who reside in this town. Round Hill Club located on Round Hill Club Road is just about home to our nations power movers. Steve Young of the San Francisco 49er's fame, quarterbacked for Greenwich High School. It is a town of excitement and wondrous intrigue. Originally the United Nations was to be situated in Greenwich, but residents elected to prevent holding that distinction. The town is diverse and well worth a visit if you come to the NYC area!

Fondest memory: When I am away from Greenwich for awhile, and then return, I realize how much cleaner, wider, and more majestic the streets are than just about anywhere else!
