 | Hartford Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 25 | | On Pratt Street near the Greater Hartford Welcome Center, I stopped for a beer and an appetizer at Vaughan's Public House. It has a nice decor with a long wooden bar. I stopped in an off-hour between lunch and dinner -- so it was pretty empty. I enjoyed a glass of Smithwick's with the broiled oyster's appetizer. The menu has many traditional Irish favorites. If you are seeking a nice Irish pub in Hartford, I would highly recommend.

Max is an upscale Italian restaurant with all the necessary accoutrements to ensure that you have a fine dining experience! They have a wide range of items on their menu, specializing in Italian. Their service is first-rate, with everything done 'just so'! Our meeting host took the entire business group out for this meal, again within easy walking distance of our hotel, and it proved to be a most enjoyable evening.
I did not feel like a substantial dish, so I elected to take the low volume seafood option - naturally the appropriate spices are not to be overlooked! The Appetizer was a dish of Spicey Shrimp Firecrackers with a Mango Sweet Chili glaze (US$11), followed by the main course of Pan-Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops with soft potato and perigord as well as truffle ravioli with butter & chives (US$27). I was tempted to eat at Woody's, but I grabbed a bite at Vaughan's Public House instead. Next time that I am in Hartford, I hope to try one of their famous hot dogs.

Located in the downtown core area of Hartford, within sight of the Soldier & Sailors Memorial gate at Bushnell Park, for me, Sallys was a great find on a quiet Monday night. The interior is quite spacious and the lower restaurant section offers nice views out toward the Park. Above is located the Pigs Eye Pub, where a few patrons were already warming up for the evening! Upon seating me by one of the front windows, the waiter noticed that someone had smudged the window, so he immediately set about cleaning it up so the view was unobstructed!
I decided to have a little spice with my meal after a long day's journey via Montreal, so the Creole Mustard BBQ Half-Chicken sounded about right! Combined with a cold glass of the local Col. Thomas Hooker Ale, I think that I made a good choice! Its off the beaten path a bit but it is well worth it. Prices are good and the food is fantastic. I have never really been a fan of polish food but I have loved every meal I have eaten here.
Don't know the name of it (its in Polish) but its a large Potato pancake with a hungarian gulosh and sour cream on it. FANTASTIC!!!!! This hole in the wall is not known for its service but the food is fantastic. If you don't look carefully you may not see the resturant. I have never had a bad meal and its cheap as well.
My favorite meals include the Pappa Moe which is 2 eggs, toast, sausage and homefries (VERY SPICY!!! but tasty). You don't want to miss their pancakes, I love their banana pancakes, they pancake sizes are huge. If I really want to treat myself I will get the french toast Leave a Comment Theme: BreakfastPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 25 Whitney StPhone: 860-236-7741Directions: Across the street from the Bank of America on Farmington Ave and around the Corner from CVS

There is an area of Hartford known a 'Little Italy' which is famous for the food. I ate at another hole in the wall where I had a great lobster dish. According to the locals, there really isn't a bad restaurant in the area. So take your pick. Most of the restaurants that I saw were family owned and not well advertised. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: I got lost on the way so I really don't remember where 'Lil' Italy' is but, ask a local and I'm sure they'll know.
