My friend's seafood salad looked delicious, too.
GRANTS: My favorite place in West Hartford
This is a perfect place for special occasion and nice meal with friends. It's casual, but the place is nicely decorated, so dress up if you want.
The meal portion is big, so you could share it with friend or take a half to go. You want to make sure that you have a room for a dessert, too, right? : )
? Mon-Thu 11:30am-3pm, 5pm-10pm
? Fri-Sat 11:30am-3pm, 5pm-11pm;

Favorite Dish: I like everything they serve there! Gnocchi, risotto, filet mignon, and ten-layer chocolate cake.
Max's Oyster Bar: One of many Max's

Mayor Mike's Restaurant: Meet the Mayor
Casual, yet very nice place with a great meal.
Good wine collection, and serves several locally brewed beer as well as imports.
Mike was once a mayor of the city, and while you are eating, he would stop by at your table to see if everything is ok.
Reservation is recommended for weekends.
Favorite Dish: I had Eggplant Parmesan, which was really good, but couldn't finish after appetizer and beer. They made the left over to go for me, but I forgot to bring it home. :(
Toshi japanese Restaurant: True Japanese
I believe that this is the only Japanese restaurant in Hartford county that's actually owned by Japanese person. I like to go there because the dishes are not Americanized.
The reservation is recommended for dinner.
Favorite Dish: Sushi and tempura. Have Sake or Kirin/Sapporo with your meal.
Lunch boxes are good and inexpensive. ($6.50-$8.50)
You can order sushi to go, or pre-order party size sushi tray to go, too.
S&P Oyster Co.: S&P Oyster Co.
The restaurant had a nice ambience and the service was excellent. The restaurant is located right on the water so I'm sure it's a great place to go for lunch. We only had dinner here though.
Favorite Dish: Unfortunately, the so-called locals' favorite baked sea scallop dish was not so great. It was good, but not great. I hate to be biased, but New England clam chowder is better than Rhode Island clam chowder.Related to:

This place was recommended for lunch by a rest area attendant on the east side of the state. I figured that meant it was good.
The food was great, but I can't remember what I ate. You probably can't go wrong with much here.
Favorite Dish: PS. There is also a 'Trader Joe's ' at the same highway exit, in the plaza.
Auntie Em's Restaurant in...
Auntie Em's Restaurant in Lakeville, C
Favorite Dish: I have only been here once and really enjoyed their buffalo wings and caesar salad. You have a choice how spicy you want the wings (for those unfamiliar with the term 'buffalo wings' they are not the winglets from baby buffalo or anything lol, rather they are chicken wings fried or baked in a spicy hot sauce: the recipe is said to have originated in Buffalo, New York.) The atmosphere of the resaurant is warm and cozy, the decorations somewhat eclectic which to me is really charming. A great place for lunch or breakfast!
UPDATE: I've been informed that Auntie Em's is no longer in business :(( Maybe they just couldn't maintain the standards they started with.Related to:

Ten Clams: Mystic's "Ten Clams"
Ten Clams isn't fancy, they don't do "gourmet". It's just a clean, inexpensive, convenient spot to have simple good food. It's easy to hop off Rte. 95 at Mystic, go into the recreated village, and enjoy a quick burger...chowder...caesar salad w/ grilled chicken...whatever and hop back on the highway. We stopped when doing some antique store hopping, but whatever your path...you can get there, park and have a quick lunch without a lot of fuss.Related to:

A great place to have a nice meal. The food was very good, the service was excellent with friendly waiters. They really know how to take care of their customers.

The Wandering Moose Cafe: A Romantic Evening!
The Cafe at the Bridge is open - serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have an excellent selection of breakast specials and sandwiches. Open for dinner Thurs.-Sat.
Favorite Dish: I had the Grilled salmon and it was excellent. It gets busy around dinner time, a tribute to how wonderful the food is. We had our meal and then walked along the river taking in the sights. It is a very romantic place. I look forward to going back again!
Black-Eyed Sally's: A Taste of Home
I felt like I was in New Orleans the minute I walked into this restaurant. Famous for the blues and the Cajun food, I think you will find it interesting. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. I highly recommend you try it!!.
Favorite Dish: Blackened Catfish - Fresh Mississippi catfish cooked in a cast-iron skillet with mashed sweet potatoes, collard greens and Poblano sour cream.
The Woodland Restaurant, in...
The Woodland Restaurant, in Lakeville.
The atmosphere is cozy, the menu is not overwhelming, but the price reflects that: you pay more for quality. Worth every penny, in my book.
Favorite Dish: Anything with seafood in it. Wonderfully prepared and DELICIOUS!!! Good vegetarian dishes too. You really must taste the food here if you're around. It is something to write home about.
In the town of woodbury,...
In the town of woodbury, you'll find a little restaurant called san remo, it has the best pizza in ct.
san remo doesn't look like much outside, but the food is good, the service is friendly, and the prices aren't outragous.
Favorite Dish: The greek salad is great and so are their pasta dishes.
Archie Moore's: The state's best buffalo wings!
This place probably has the best chicken wings (with blue cheese, hot dip and sellery) in Connecticut. Students from FU come here a lot and I can say that I loved it here. Friendly personel, great food, good atmosphere, tons of fon! For a list of Fairfield County's best eats, click here. You'll find Archie Moore's under best Buffalo wings indeed!
