Trains from NewYork are running. Reach NewYork in 1.15 mins. Best way to to take a return ticket or u can even buy on the train.
Getting around i found was difficult if u dont have ur own car. Buses are not very frequent....I had to walk about 4 kms once......but its not a bad walk there is a lot to look around.

To get to Stamford from New York you can take Metro North trains, or Amtrak. Stamford is also serviced by I-95 and the Merritt Parkway.
There are buses that reach most parts of the city. The downtown area is compact enough to walk, and the train station is a 10 minute walk from downtown. Taxis are also plentiful.

Most, if not all, of the hotels in Stamford operate shuttle services. Westin's shuttles run every half an hour in the morning.

Metro North New Haven Line runs from/to Grand Central station to/from Stamford station. It takes about an hour each way and a round trip costs about $20.
