The beaches of West Haven are a nice day trip or stop during a road trip. The beaches are relatively uncrowded but have sand and calm water. The beach has a nice boardwalk area that provides a nice long walk along the water. The beach has some nice piers jutting out from the sand, benches to relax and some nice reatursnta to grab a meal.

West Haven Restaurants

  • Seafood & a Tiki Bar

Captains is another West Haven favorite because it's right on the Long Island Sound. The restaurant is simple but it's the food and the views people come here for. Liz and I enjoy their outdoor Tiki bar for drinks and tasty appetizers. Captain's serves the typical seafood; clams, crab, lobster, shrimp and mussel dishes as well as prime rib. The...

  • The Texas Roadhouse

The Texas Roadhouse is our favorite place to eat in Milford. The restaurant itself is rather large with multiple seating areas and well as a bar. The theme of course is Texas and you can see the Texas signs and accents all over the place. As soon as you enter there is a meat counter on the left hand side. You are able to choose your particular...

  • Great Outdoor Dining & Seafood

Jimmie's is a local favorite on the beach because of its water views and incredible food. Jimmie's is quite large with several dining areas both inside and out on the patio. The menu has a nice selection of meat, poultry, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and of course seafood. This popular place often gets crowded rather early so be prepared to wait...

West Haven Nightlife

  • The Big Margarita

We are often in the area and sometimes we stop at the Texas Roadhouse just for an appetizer and to get my wife one of their Big Margaritas. The Margaritas are served in a huge and heavy goblet type glass. They are under $7 and such a bargain for a good and tasty Margarita.

  • Great Outdoor Bar with a Beach View

Jimie's has a nice outdoor bar area overlooking the beach. The bar is not just for drinks but serves a limited version of the restaurant menu. Liz and I often find ourselves here when we are waiting for a table or for a drink after a nice beach walk. The bar is usually filled with people hanging out with a drink and enjoying the beautiful weather....

West Haven Transportation

  • Metro North Railroad

Metro North is another way to get to West Haven, Right now you have to either get of at the New Haven or Milford station then take a bus or taxi to West Haven. The West Haven Station project just received funding so a station will be built in West Haven in the near future.

  • Walking to the Beach

If your are fortunate to live in West HAven or know some one in the area then you probably can walk to the beach. Our friends live just blocks from the beach so it is very easy to park at their house and walk a short five minutes to the beach (and save the parking fee).

It is clearly posted along the beach that there is No Animals Allowed on the Beach. For the most part we see people complying with this rule but there are always a few "rule breakers" afoot. If the beach patrol see the violation they will ticket the owner of the animal.

All over the area are signs to keep the beaches clean. The town has provided ample trash cans as well as pet waste disposal bags. For the most part the beaches are clean and it is rare that we see trash strewn about. There are the occasional offenders that do not clean up after their pooch......damn disgusting.

West Haven What to Pack

Luggage and bags: Most of our West Haven trips are day trips or an overnight stay in the area so a small overnight bag, backpack or small rollaboard will suffice.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In the summertime we like to use the WestHaven Beaches so swimsuits, towels and sunscreen are a must.
