If I'd known how interesting this place was I might have found the time to take a tour 9on the hour, when it is open).
Roseland Cottage is classic Victorian Gothic Revival style, very pink indeed with lots of embellishments. built as a summer home for locally-born wealthy businessman Henry C Bowen, it is surrounded by gardens (including the original parterre gardens planted in 1850) and parkland, the latter later given by Bowen to the people of Woodstock.
Bowen hosted huge 4th July celebrations from this house, with up to 10000 people in attandance...three US presidents and many other people of importance were guests at these celebrations over the years.
Well worth visiting if you are in the area, I think, although the house is only open during the summer months (June -October). The website gives opening days and hours
