    New Castle

Favorite thing: New Castle County is where Bear is. The county is the northernmost county in Delaware.

The county seat is over in Wilmington and the weighted-center of the state population is in this county. It is by far the most populated with the most traffic and the most industry in the state. Luckily Bear is in a more rural section of the county and is spared some of the commotion associated with large population areas.

William Penn established the Colony of Delaware in this county before the region became a state.
The county is about 500 square miles with a population of 500000.

Favorite thing: Bear is far enough inland that the localized influence of the ocean temperatures have little effect on the areas weather. The temperature changes in each season are less than what people on the Jersey coast experience.

Winters are not mild but they definitely are not any way as harsh as those we experience in Western New York State. A foot of snow in mid-winter is not uncommon but only rarely do the temperatures fall well below zero.

Spring comes a bit earlier than we New Yorkers are used to. My aunt-in-law has her garden starting to bloom while we in Rochester, NY are waiting for the last frost of winter.

Summers can be sweltering and the heat starts right in the first week of June and lasts until the kids go back to school in September. There have been several years lately when water advisories have required people to let their lawns brown out (but our aunt-in-law somehow always manages to keep her garden beautiful.... night watering probably!!)

Fall is very nice in Delaware in general. The evenings begin to cool off (but not as quickly nor as cold as in New York) while the days still remain pleasantly warm.
