Things to Do

Captain Jack's Pirate Golf

Captain Jack's Pirate Golf, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  In my humble opinion, every summer resort town should have at least one miniature golf course. My reason is that they are partly nostalgic for me, but also because they are pure Americana! I always get a kick out of the different themes which are carried out through golf...

A Good Read at the Beach

A Good Read at the Beach, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  I love to read and sometimes there is nothing more relaxing than placing yourself on the beach under an umbrella with a good book while also enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the ocean. If you are on a tight budget, the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach might be...

Mango's: Fantastic Views -- Not So Fantastic Food!, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  After quite a long drive down to Bethany Beach, we were more than ready for lunch when we arrived. We found a parking place pretty quickly only a block from the beach and spotted the sign for Mango's which was located on the second level of a building which was located...

Maureen's Ice Cream & Desserts: When Nothing but Ice Cream Will Do

Maureen's Ice Cream & Desserts: When Nothing but Ice Cream Will Do, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  Maureen's Ice Cream and Desserts had a cute, little storefront right on Garfield Parkway, and after the so-so lunch at Mango's we thought we deserved a little ice cream. Maureen's, which had a slight resemblance to an old-fashioned Ice Cream Parlour, had about 15-20 flavors...

Rasberry Icecream

There is no night life in Bethany Beach and the locals are really proud of that. They like them some quiet, and have the cops to enforce it. Very nice family town. One of the few towns you can let the kids go walk around even at night.
There is no night life what so ever in this town. Walk on the beach, play cards, get to bed early. If you want bars, babes, and boardwalk crowds, go to Ocean City MD.

Dress Code: Must not be naked. This is a family beach.
"The quiet resort" is their motto. So be quiet if you go. They like that.

Address: This is my fave icecream shop on the board walk.

Bethany Beach Blue Trolley ~ What a Deal!

Bethany Beach Blue Trolley ~ What a Deal!, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  As noted in my "General" tip, parking in beachfront towns is often difficult. However, the town of Bethany Beach has done a so much better job than most in providing parking for daytrippers and summer rental visitors.Even better than that, Bethany Beach provides residents...

No Train, No Plane

No Train, No Plane, Bethany Beach

DEBBBEDB Says:  The closest airport to this area is PHI which is about 135 miles. There you would have to rent a car. Bethany Beach is also completely unserved by trains - no passenger trains at all and not even any close freight train stops. Even in the "old days" there was no train. One...

Don't Forget to Bring Back a T-Shirt

Don't Forget to Bring Back a T-Shirt, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  As with nearly all beach and resort towns, there are plenty of shops mixed with plenty of small restaurants. I thought Bethany Beach's shopping blocks were nicer than most and had a good variety of stores. However, most the most prevalent type of shop sold toys, beachwear...

Bethany Trading Company: My favorite gift shop in Bethany, Bethany Beach

tpangelinan Says:  They have it all, t-shirts, sweat shirts, beach chairs, hats...you name it. This is a one stop shop for you souvenir needs folks. Cups posters, beach house stuff, ships, towels, shells, what does Aunt Martha want? We like to buy a nice short or long sleeve shirt in every...

Farewell to Summer ~ New Orleans Style

Farewell to Summer ~ New Orleans Style, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  Every year for nearly 25 years now, residents and visitors of Bethany Beach have "mourned" the passing of Summer in a very unique way---they hold a "Jazz Funeral Parade" in New Orleans fashion on Labor Day weekend! The brainchild of a local resident, the "fun" funeral marked...

You get up early,

You get up early,, Bethany Beach

tpangelinan Says:  Eat a nice breakfast, pack a lunch if you want to and sit on the beach all day. You will need sun screan, chairs & or blanket, drinks, SUN BLOCK , look, you need a lot of stuff to do this right! I love the beach. I could listen to the waves, the gulls, and the people...

Warnings and Dangers

I agree....

I agree...., Bethany Beach

LizMary Says:  Totally agree with the above statements. I have been a year-round resident of the "Quiet Resorts" for the past two years, and they aren't too darn quiet in the summer! I am a northern DE native...and even I cannot take the traffic at times! But...after labor Day.... it's...

Rip Tides Can Ruin Your Day

Rip Tides Can Ruin Your Day, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  The day we visited Bethany Beach, there was a strong wind blowing and you could see there was a lot of wave action, though no white caps. Bethany Beach provides lifeguards up & down the beach which is great. However, read the beach sign about surviving rip tides and use...

Hold on tight to your wallet!

Honestly, almost every shop in this town is overpriced and understated. You're money will not go far here. If your kids like surfer dude stuff, this place is gonna set you back big time. Mucho Denaro

Unique Suggestions: Limit their budget before entrance.

Fun Alternatives: Go to the outlets in Rehoboth DE on the way home.

This whole town is off the path

I have to have room to breath, stretch my arms. There are life guards in the summer. The best times are late June through September. This is a beach where it costs a lot to stay, but is worth the $$ for the breathing room.

Real Golf

Real Golf, Bethany Beach

DEBBBEDB Says:  In the old days, when the children were smaller, we used to go to Rehobeth and walk the boardwalk and play miniature golf. Now, we go and play golf on the real course. There is a public course in Bethany, which is called Salt Pond Jan 1 - Mar 22: $12.00 - 9 holes ~$18.00...

Gone fish'in., Bethany Beach

tpangelinan Says:  Wake up, put your shoes on and walk to the beach. Bring a bucket to sit on, and if you catch a fish, you can flip your seat over. A beach chair and and umbrella would be good too. You may need a license to fish on the beach. Bait, Fishing pole, Hat, Beer, (or coffee),...

Parking ~ I've Seen A Lot Worse, Bethany Beach

starship Says:  As parking goes in beach towns on the East Coast, I've seen a lot worse than that in Bethany Beach. In fact, I think the town has done a darn good job of trying to provide parking options for visitors for a town of its small size. The major road entering town is Garfield...

The Beach

The Beach, Bethany Beach

tpangelinan Says:  These are the fences that Delaware puts up to protect the beach and dunes from erosion. They do help and seem to stay there for a while, so it must work, Right?
