Hmm.. lets see..
Fight unbelievable traffic, maddening crowds,
getting a full workout climbing to your seat which is perched high above an oval track.. dealing with a 150, 000 other people trying to find their seat.. paying $90 to sit on a metal seat... bake in the sun...watch cars go around in a circle.. and put up with 4 hours of noise..
And.. have a blast !!!! :) LOL
Twice a year, Nascar visits Dover racetrack for a weekend of fun. The trucks race on friday, the busch (minor leaque :) ) races saturday.. and the Winston cup (hmm will it be Nextel Cup next year? :) ) races on Sunday. I have tickets to both races and have a blast each time.
I have been to every major american sporting event, seen football (soccer) matches in England..also F1.. Cart and the IRL.. but, nothing compares to the fanatic NASCAR fan. "hey buddy, I don't think your favorite driver can hear you as he goes past at 170mph" :)
Watching a race is like seeing all the NFL football games at the same time because everyone in the stands has their favorite driver....and cheers even if it is only a pass from 20th position to 19th haha.
Over the years, i have seen it change from a 'good ole boy' sport to become more a family sport with women and kids in the stands. Hmm, and those women can get pretty vocal about their favorite drivers LOL.
Costs.. friday and saturday race tickets on in the $30 range.. with specials for kids.
Sunday's race is much more expensive.. my tickets are $90.
Equipment: * a cushion to sit on :)
* a small bag with some food and lots of water (or beer if you wish) they do have some restrictions on the size of bags you can bring in .
* Suntan lotion
** but the most important is Headsets (preferrably with a scanner or am/fm) or earplugs
* a scanner is cool because you can hear the drivers talk to their pit crews during the race

NASCAR is the big sporting event in Dover. The races on this"Monster Mile" oval draw over 140,000 spectators, quadrupling the size of this town of 35,000. The races are held twice a year in early June and late September.
Parking can be a real problem for the Sunday Nextel Cup race. One of the best ideas is to park at the Blue Hen Mall on Route 13 south ... they offer parking for $20 per vehicle that includes a bus ride for all of your passengers.
Bring your own drinks and food to the track. Hamburgers can run $5-7 while a 16 oz bottle of water is around $4. All fans may bring a small cooler with drinks in cans or plastic bottles. No glass!
Race tickets cost between $55 and $98 for grandstand seats.

Dover is home to Dover Downs, which includes a Nascar mile long race track, a casino, a horse track, hotels, restaurants and more. I've never been. I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for long enough (Charlotte's the capital of Nascar!) and had my fill of the races.
