Delaware is divided into only three counties: New Castle, Kent and Sussex. This make Delaware the state with the fewest counties even though it is not the smallest state.
The county divisions are based on the structure of the court system in Delaware.

New Castle is the northern third of the state and is the more populace of the counties. It has twice as many people as the other two counties added together.
The county seat is in Wilmington.

Kent is home to the state capital and tucked away in the center third of the state.
The county seat is in Dover.

Sussex is the southern third of the state, bordering on Virginia and Maryland.
The county seat is in Georgetown.

I love the local custom of low taxes. Coming from New York to Delaware is like it used to be going from New York to Canada..... your money goes a long long ways. Residents not only pay lower taxes on purchases, they get a break on their income taxes too.

If the traffic and congestion on the highways weren't such a negative factor, I would consider moving to Delaware after retirement.
