Newark, DE is simple to get to. It's centrally located between Washington, DC and New York City. If you are traveling on the East Coast, Newark is one of the few Delaware exits off Interstate 95 (I-95). From the North or South to Delaware Exit 1 and follow the signs for Route 896 North. Follow 896 North through the UD campus. Make a right on Delaware Avenue, it runs paralell to Main Street. Go several blocks, and make two lefts, this will put you on Main St., the heart of the town. If you are in Newark and want to visit Philadelphia (or vice versa) SEPTA offers train service betweenthe two cities. The R2 line runs between 6am and 8pm on weekdays and slightly less on the weekends. The train is reliable and clean. Tickets cost $5.50 for peak hours and $4.25 for off-peak hours. You can also change trains at Philly's 30th Street Station to get to more places around the city and the airport. Just be careful to make sure you have the times right at night so you don't get stuck without a ride home. The SEPTA website has all the information for fares and timetables for this line and others.

by davecallahan Getting around Newark is pretty straightforward using the DART system (Delaware Transit Corporation). The "trolley" service provides access to the following areas: University of Delaware, College Square Shopping Center, Newark Library, Newark Shopping Center and Newark Municipal Building. Rate is $1 (daily pass of $2); children and certain special-needs persons are free.

by ajwalks 9/11 Ribbon Garden at the University The Ribbon Garden on the South Mall near Memorial Hall open from, Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 through Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 gave members of the University community an opportunity to write their own personal messages of support, hope or love on yellow ribbons and then hang them in the Garden. Donations were made to the American Red Cross. The ribbons currently are in the care of the University Archives, where they were numbered, organized, stored and their messages transcribed and entered into a database. UD was established as a private college in 1743 and now has almost 20,000 full-time students. The campus is a beautiful, open layout with large red brick buildings evoking a very old feel similar to the University of Virginia. The center of the campus is Memorial Hall, built in 1924 in honor of the men from Delaware who died in World War I. It houses a book in the central hall with names of those who died serving the country. Some of UD's most famous alumni include Senator Joe Biden, singer George Thorogood, former NFL quarterback Rich Gannon, and three signers of the Declaration of Independence. Leave a Comment

White Clay State Park is over 3300 acres of forest with areas for picnicing and sports. A creek runs through the park (the White Clay Creek). It's open years round and in nice weather is full of people hanging out, running and bike riding. Fishing is open in some areas of the creek as well. If you like to hike, there are 37-miles worth of trails to explore, winding through the shaded areas (very pretty in the fall). Around Halloween you'll find hayrides that are great for kids and families (throughout the rest of the year there are weekend hayrides available for kids birthday parties). Throughout the year the park holds events that are open to the public (birdwatching tours, educational programs, etc). Certain areas of the park are open to white-tail deer hunting as well. It's a really pretty area, close to Wilmington, where you can relax and enjoy the outdoors all year long. There is abundant parking and amenities are spread out nicely. Good spot to spend a nice Saturday afternoon.
