Delaware's small Mexican restaurant chain called La Tolteca, has a very good location in Newark. We stopped in for a late lunch of Enchiladas Poblanas including two chicken enchiladas with mole poblano, cheese, onion and rice ($5.99) and Special Lunch #7 which consisted of one quesadilla, enchilada, and a chalupa (5.99). The enchiladas were "fantastic" and "extremely satisfying" while the #7 special was also very good. With our meals we enjoyed a tasty frozen raspberry margarita and a lime margarita on the rocks ($5.50 each).

This Tolteca location is very deceiving but nice. From the outside it just looks like a small grocery store in a shopping plaza. Once on the inside you'll realize this is a very nice, and large restaurant. Besides the bar and seating area in the front, the rear of the location has a large dining room with an upstairs area including a 360 degree balcony. All very pleasant and modern.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill: we go to these often...

Applebees is a family favorite with us. Wherever we visit, we can find good food and relaxing, casual atmosphere at one of the neighborhood grills.

The center of the restaurant is a bar with bar stools from which customers can drink or order a meal. In a u-shape around the bar are small tables with high chairs (yuppie seats) where usually the young adults sit and have a meal along with their drink. Around the bar and these small tables are the booths and large tables for the family diners. These seats are much more comfortable for older boned people so we usually seat out in the booths.

The menu is given on the website below, so I will not repeat it here.
I usually go for anything they have that involves lettuce and chicken like the Chicken Caesar salad. I get my proteins and my greens and a full stomach. My wife tends toward either the fish dish like the Filet of Sole or the pork dish like the BBQ Spare-ribs. She is a five-napkin ribs eater. For beverage, we like the sweet tea or hot coffee and for dessert they have a great Hot AppleCrumb Cake with Caramel syrup over vanilla ice cream.

The atmosphere is basically family diner with freindly and efficient waitresses and good cooks who serve up tasty food in a short amount of time. (They now have call-ahead where you can call in your meal order and then come in and pick it up).
The pricing is reasonable. We are usually under $25 for two people for dinner.

Brew Haha is a cozy coffeehouse on Main Street in Newark, very close to the University. Between the wood floors and the fireplace, the cafe is a comfortable place where you'll find a lot of students during the school year. There's also a nice patio with plenty of seating to enjoy when the weather is nice. As you sit inside, enjoy some light jazz music as you relax with a book.

Brew Haha feels like a traditional coffeehouse with couches and a warm feeling. The staff is friendly and won't bother you if you just order one small coffee and then stay for 3 hours.

Don't miss the peanut butter cookies, especially right after they come out of the oven.

Some nice lunch-type foods, fresh baked pastries and cookies and great espresso coffee drinks.

This 2 story tavern has been occupied by many different businesses in its long history, but has been known to students and locals as Kate's for sometime now. A great place to stop in after a university tour, or in the evenings for a good samling of the college scene. Very strict ID policies enforced during the school year to curb undereage drinking. I had some of the greatest times of my life at this watering hole, I still refer to it as my favorite bar.

Kate's has the best wings in town if you are looking for a quick appetizer or a meal.

Klondike Kate's is on Main Street in Newark and occupies an old Victorian building. Kate's has been a tavern, a hotel and now a restaurent/bar. It originally opened in 1757 and in the early 20th century was used as a local jail.

Food is good and decently priced. Drinks are a little pricey, but the bar offers a nice wine list.

Kate's makes a nice cheesesteak and has some unique, yummy salads.

Timothy's: Stop in for dinner, stay for a drink

Timothy's is less than a mile from Main St Newark and fairly close to the university campus. The restaurant offers typical fare along with a few nice alternatives (bison burgers, veggie choices) and a wide array of beers of draft. During nice weather, you can sit outside on the deck, overlooking the White Clay Creek. Aside from regular dining, a second floor banquet area holds 150 people for parties and functions.

If you're in the mood to relax and enjoy the company of others, or a 350 gallon fish tank full of fish from the White Clay Creek, the downstairs bar is a nice spot. If you're in the mood to play some pool, foosball, or other video games, the upstairs bar is available. Late night Dj and dancing is also very popular upstairs because of the spacious area available.

Bison Burger and Hot Wings are great here.

A unique bar and restaurant in an old warehouse, I have been wanting to visit Timothy's for months. It is a few blocks off the beaten path, but worth the walk for the good food an friendly atmosphere. We sat on the back deck above the creek and enjoyed excellent hot wings ($8) along with a crab cake sandwich ($12) and a bison burger ($9). In my opinion, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was very good. After our meal, we sat at the bar, had a few beers (Shiner Bock - $3.50, Yuengling - $3.50, and Blue Moon - $4.25), and enjoyed the atmosphere.
