Take the ferry to Cape May NJ for the day.

Take your car or go by foot on ferry from Lewis Delaware to Cape May NJ and back. Leave in morning, return in evening. Ferry has restaurant (indoor and climate controlled), and gift shop. In season, you can ride a trolley car to Cape May from Ferry.

Lake Gerar

Okay, this place isn't really off the beaten path, but in comparison to the crowded beach, it feels like you're miles away. I took this picture of Lake Gerar near the intersection of 2nd and Olive Streets and it was certainly one of the most peaceful, quiet spots in town.
