    traffic and weather hazards

Favorite thing: Are you in the Wilmington area and want to know the traffic conditions on the roads you plan to travel? Then the link below will get you the information you want and need.
When you get to the linked page, just run the cursor over the warning symbols on the map and it will tell you what is happening there.

    Temporary visit by the Amistad

    Amistad

Favorite thing: This ship happened to be docked in Wilmington when I arrived. They laid out an impressive display of the slave mutiny on board, and opened the ship up to visits. The ship itself is a recreation of the original, but is larger and equipped with engines.

Fondest memory: I have to say, that despite this ship's higher profile, I really enjoyed the Kalmar nyckel better. Their staff is a lot friendlier, too. I wouldn't go so far as to call this a tourist trap though.

    Brandywine State Park

    Brandywine

Favorite thing: About 7-8 miles west of Wilmington is a state forest. Its a center of local recreation. I myself had a great time watching kids catch frogs.

Fondest memory: It would have been better if it was more in bloom, but it was still pretty. Watch those narrow roads going in though.

    Neighborhoods

by hochbeam Updated Sep 28, 2002

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Every little neighborhood has a name and a personality. Trolley Square (centered around the 1800 block of Delaware Avenue) has one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. The merchants association is trying to take it to the next level, and make Trolley Square a destination like New Hope, PA. Farther up Delaware Avenue is the Highlands, a residential neighborhood, with some very impressive residences near Rockford Park and the Art Museum (which is under renovation). Back down toward I-95 are some old mid-1800's three story brick houses in an area known as "Happy Valley". It was probably happier before I-95 went through. Across Pennsylvania Avenue is the well-preserved Victorian neighborhood of Cool Spring. Everyone's holding their breath for Ship's Tavern, a big redevelopment project involving 19th century buildings downtown near the train station. Will this become the coolest neighborhood in Wilmington? Stay tuned. And check out www.wilmingtonrenaissance.com
