Cafe Abyssinia: A hidden Ethiopian coffeeshop

by hochbeam Written Sep 28, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This unique café is hidden inside Sacred Heart Village, an apartment complex for seniors on the edge of the Trinity Vicinity neighborhood. Just tell the security guard at the door that you’re here for the coffee. And what coffee it is! The owner is Ethiopian, and they take their coffee seriously. They also offer some seriously delicious pastries, baked goods, soups, and sandwiches.

Favorite Dish: Alan’s personal favorite isn’t on the menu: they have a stash of chai (spiced tea) from Madagascar that they serve with steamed milk.

China Royal: Best Chinese food in Wilmington

by hochbeam Written Sep 27, 2002

This is the place to go for something more than the usual Chinese meal. The presentation of the food is always wonderful. Where else do the waiters wrap the moo-shu pancakes for you?

Favorite Dish: The Peking Duck is a tasty standout.

Charcoal Pit: A Wilmington Teen Tradition

by hochbeam Written Sep 27, 2002

We're talking about the original on Concord Pike, there since the 50's. If you were born here, you've been going to the Charcoal Pit since junior high and there is an ice cream sundae named after your high school.

Favorite Dish: They serve real, pre-fast-food burgers here.

    Capriotti's: Great Subs, including Vegetarian

by hochbeam Written Sep 27, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a local chain in Delaware and Las Vegas--go figure. The subs are great, especially the Bobbie (Thanksgiving Dinner on a roll--turkey and cranberries) and the Vegetarian Turkey.

Favorite Dish: I'm partial to the Veggie Turkey myself. A "small" is a full dinner for me.

Angela's Italian Food: Don't let appearances fool you (Italian)

by hochbeam Updated Sep 27, 2002

One look at this place screams "nothing special". Don't be fooled. Everything here is homemade. The pasta, the sauce, the incredible rum cake.

Favorite Dish: Stick with simple pasta and red sauce to appreciate the difference between homemade and what the chains offer. And did I mention cannolis?
