You can visit the Tarpon Pointe Grill and Tiki Bar (TPG) boat or car and enjoy the sights and sounds while drinking and dining on the beautiful southshore of the Manatee River, just east of downtown Bradenton.

The TGP just opened 4th of July weekend 2011 and is in the process of expanding already. There is ample parking and boat docking and always entertainment available.

TGP features a "Floribbean" menu and it is a little sample of both Florida Key and Caribbean Island life so enjoy your "island time" on the river.

Say hi to Kelly for me and you may even find both myself and Master Rumologist Carlton Grooms concocting some rum drinks using the Tiki Bar setting sometime.

TPG offers live entertainment every day, 13 flat screen TV's, sand volleyball courts and both Happy Hour and daily menu features.

There is a Full Bar with several boat docks for those arriving from The Gulf of Mexico or Tampa Bay and motoring up the Manatee River to just past Marker 24 starboard.

Tarpon Pointe is a unique Bradenton experience featuring amazing waterfront views, great food, drinks, live music, activities and entertainment, all in a friendly, easy-going atmosphere!
    Open: Sunday - Thursday 11am - 10pm Friday & Saturday 11am - 12am

    Happy Hours:
    3pm-6pm Daily
    Sunday thru Thursday 9pm-10pm
    Friday & Saturday 10pm-12am

Live music 6 nights a week featuring the best local bands and special performances from guest musicians

TPG has a Corn Hole league Monday nights, Sand volleyball, NFL ticket for TV and special events for all ages plus they can do Weddings, Private Parties, Business Functions on land or on their luxury yacht, the Algorithum.

Favorite Dish: A "Floribbean" menu offers many choices.

My favorite is the "Caribbean sandwich" which is grilled Mahi with a roasted jalapeno-pineapple salsa with diced tomato and lettuce on a Kaiser roll ($12.95). Plenty to eat and very delicious!

Thoroughly Jamaican throughout from the exteriorm interior, food and drink.

Friendly, knowledgeable service and a true love of the Jamaican culture.

Favorite Dish: The Jamaican jerk chicken nachos were awesome! Served in a large bowl with chicken breast done just right.

Try the "rum wine" rum cooler....Rhumbello.

Java Jazz Cafe: Excellent weekday breakfast and lunch spot

by mikeveg Written Apr 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Java Jazz is a great coffee shop and breakfast/lunch spot. The food is delicious, and leans towards the healthy side, with lots of salads and light fare. You can eat there and get loaded with energy to continue your day. IMPORTANT: VEGETARIAN FARE IS ON THE MENU, but it is not a vegetarian restaurant, so do read the ingredients if you want to avoid meat, eggs or cheese. I haven't eaten meat in 22 years, although I do eat seafood, and I find plenty on the menu here.

Favorite Dish: For breakfast on the go, a bagel melt on an everything bagel. Fresh tomatoes, provolone cheese, toasted and broiled.... the perfect way to get me going in the morning. For lunch, a veggie club, or a salad........ they use actual field greens, and lots of them, and everything is fresh.

  • Arby's: Good Customer Service

    by weath1850 Updated Feb 3, 2007

While you may think of Arby's as just another fast food joint, this one is different. How is it different you ask? It is different because the employees actually talk to the customers when they are not busy. Also, the management does all they can to make sure that your experience is the best for what fast food can give you.

Favorite Dish: This restaurant has roast beef( it is arbys after all!) and the salads are good for what you would expect. they also have specials that vary depending on the time of the year.

  • There is another called...

There is another called Leverock's that's pretty good. It's a seafood restaurant located on the way to Homes Beach. There are several restaurants out on Longboat Key which is an area on the beach. Here the restaurants are very fancy and will cost some money. Some nice places include Cafe L'Europe and Euphemia Hay.
Here the wait for a table may take a while depending on season. I waited for about and hour and a half, but there was a nice area outside that let you sit and order drinks to pass the time.

Favorite Dish: The shrimp is good, but I'd have to say any of the crab meals are amazong at Leverock's. At the more expensive places, the European dishes are radikewl.

There's a wonderful Japanese restaurant near the Bradenton-Sarasota airport called Jo-to's. They specialize in the Japanese style of cooking.
If you've ever been to a Japanese restaurant, you were probably amazed at the chef's skills in flipping and throwing food around. This place has a great atmosphere because of it.

Food Cart at Old Main Pub

    by Ewingjr98 Written Jun 5, 2011
    1 more image

After 8 or 9pm, even on weekends, Bradenton's Main Street area all but shuts down except for a handful of bars. If you are hungry, walk bar to bar, and ask about food, nothing doing. Even a big bar with a full menu, like the Lost Kangaroo, shuts down its kitchen... what the heck to people do when they are drunk and hungry?

Alas, around 10pm a food cart sets up in front of Old Main Pub. They have a good menu of street vendor food including Italian sausages, hot dogs, Polish sausages and more. The bread is fresh and tasty, and the fried onions and peppers are the perfect topping. Each sandwich is only about $3.

The only concern? I ended up with a touch of food poisoning after my visit... not necessarily from this food cart, but was more likely from here than from the established restaurants I ate at before and after this one.

Riverside Cafe - Across the river in Palmetto

    by Ewingjr98 Updated Jun 5, 2011

Riverside Cafe is a casual, waterfront restaurant with a huge outdoor deck along a small marina at the edge of the Manatee River. Our server was flawless, quickly greeting us, serving our drinks and food, and checking up with us. The server for the neighboring table was horrible--even though they arrived before us, we ordered our meals long before they even received their drinks, and we ate, paid our bill, and left before their food ever arrived.

The most interesting thing here is the cats who have free range of the outside cafe. At least two cats wandered table to table, sniffing customers and even occasionally getting a quick rub on the head. The cats are very comfortable here, relaxing in the shade all day.

I had their Riverside Fish Sandwich, grilled flaky whitefish, served on a toasted bun, with tomatoes, onions, and lettuce; it was served with fries for about $10. Laura had the Riverside Fish Reuben, with the same whitefish, topped with sauerkraut & Swiss cheese on grilled rye, also around $10. The food was good, but the quality of the fish was average, certainly nowhere near a good, fresh grouper filet.

    Barbecue at the Farmers Market

    by Ewingjr98 Written Mar 8, 2010

The Farmers Market has a few food stands with breads, honeys, candies, baklava, sandwiches and more. We stopped at the barbecue cart at the northern end of the market, where we had great pulled pork sandwiches from the friendly vendor for about $4 each and bottled water was only $1 each. The sandwiches were packed full of tender meat, then topped with tasty barbecue sauce on a fresh roll. We sat at the small table next to the booth and watched the people and dogs wander around while we ate.
