TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC!!! The single biggest problem with Brandon is the extraordinarily heavy traffic, especially on Brandon Blvd. Causeway Blvd. (also known as Lumsden Rd.), Parsons Rd., and Bloomingdale Ave. are also notorious for heavy traffic.
Generally traffic is manageable, provided you are not on the road between the hours of 7:30 to 9:30 AM in the mornings, and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the evenings, Monday through Friday. During these rush hour times, traffic is beyond impossible to deal with. You can expect delays of up to 30-45 minutes without warning during these times!
One other warning...............buy bottled water! The water in the Brandon area is heavy with sulfur. It can smell like rotten eggs, and taste almost as bad at times!
The area has millions of mosquitoes and invisible biting sand flies (known as “no-see-ums”), especially in the coastal and marshy areas, but neither insect carries malaria or other diseases. You should keep these pests at bay with a good insect repellent.
