    Cape Kennedy

by grandmaR Written Jul 13, 2013

I have not visited Cape Kennedy - basically my husband is not interested in the astronaut program at all and the only reason I would visit would be to to see the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse.

But I know other people want to go.

The launch buildings and other things on the Cape are landmarks that we saw every time we went down the river past Titusville and we also managed to see some launches from the river or from the surrounding areas.

Since the launch buildings are all I have photos of - that's what I present here.

    Fishing Pier at Jetty Park

by grandmaR Updated Jul 13, 2013

When we came in to Port Canaveral, I saw a park along the side of the entrance. I think this was Jetty Park

Jetty Park is one of the most popular recreation spots in Brevard County. One of this park's best-loved features is the 1,200 foot Malcolm E. McLouth Fishing Pier - open 24 hours, paved, lighted, equipped with fish-cleaning tables with running water and fully accessible to the physically challenged. People use this pier even in the winter when the weather is not suitable for swimming

There are fees for day parking at Jetty Park. For cars, day parking is $10.00.

  • The Beach

by BeachDaisy Written Mar 28, 2010

The beaches of Cape Canaveral can be considered a hidden treasure of the Space Coast, since many people use the beaches of Cocoa Beach, the next city south. The key to this hidden treasure? The locals work, on their own time, to maintain its beauty, especially the dunes. We love to see you enjoying the beauty the teamwork of the city, the locals, and mother nature have worked SO HARD to maintain and preserve. The locals, ask one thing of you: PLEASE DO NOT WALK IN THE DUNES. Each time you step in the dune, whether to find a new path, avoid people, or just because, know that you are irreparably damaging years of hard work, and endangering the safety of the environment around the dunes. These dunes are not only beautiful treasures-they keep the hoses near the beach safer from hurricanes, prevent beach erosion, shelter wildlife nests, and are home to many species of plants and animals. Please take into consideration those who remain once your vacation ends. Thank you.

    Enjoy the Pool

    by cjg1 Updated Feb 4, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The pool on the Sovereign of the Seas was small but very nice. One section was for kids and the other was for over 18 guests. There were two jacuzzis at withe end of the pool. The first time we went in the pool Liz was surprised it was salt water.....she figured it would be chlorine just like any other pool. It was funny to watch her emerge from the water saying"Chris the water is salty"....it was amusing to me.

The pool during the day is pretty packed so make sure to reserve a chair early by putting your beach bag and towels on one. At night it's leass crowded, and that's when we like to go. There is also less of a chance of a bad sunburn when the sun is down. We enjoy the pool and jacuzzi especially and at night we almost feel like we are alone.

    Mini- Golf Funntasia

by homerandmarge Written Aug 9, 2007

Funntasia minigolf in Cape Canaveral is excellent.
One of the nicest courses I've played on. It has two 18 hole courses. Waterfalls a cave and lot's of native species running around.
The staff there was super nice and willing to go out of their way to suggest and find info for other local activities. I met Brad there and he was incredibly nice and interested in travels.

The land that is used as restricted areas is today a haven for nature. Many water ways and swamps are home to more then 500 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibian live. Also many alligators are at home there.

    Crawler Way

by MikeAtSea Updated Feb 18, 2005

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Massive Crawler Transporters bring the shuttle to the launch pads. The size of those transporters is about half the size of a soccer field weighing 2727 tons. It travels with less then 2 km per hour. The Crawler way can be seen on the way to the launch pads.

    Take a Disney Cruise

by Hexepatty Updated Sep 9, 2003

Port Canaveral is home to a Cruise Port for several different cruise lines. I went on a Disney 3 - day cruise on the WONDER and had an absolute blast. It took only about 55 minutes to get from Orlando to Port Canaveral by car. The Port Hall/Lobbby for Disney is VERY pretty!

Somedays you might be able to see manatees and or dolphins swiming. Camping facilities available. The best spot to see Shuttle/Rocket launches.

Using one of the telescopic "viewers" located on the Tower or your telephoto camera lens gives you an excellent view of one of the Shuttle launch pads. In this picture, you can see the platform that carries the Shuttle still on site after a recent launch.

    THE place to take pictures

    by tony248 Written Feb 25, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The best place to see and take pictures of the VAB, crawlerway, Shuttle launch pads, the general area around the pads and (at least while we were there) a crawler / transporter is the Observation Tower. The Tower is located close to the center of activity of the Spaceport. You can see so much from here. There are also food, restroom and other facilities and activies here.

You buy an advance ticket for $15 and that gets you to a swamp about 6 miles from the launch pad. For tickets http://www.store.yahoo.com/kennedyspacecenter/index.html

Most of the viewers were not from the US (all good Americans were at Disney world?) It was mission STS-98 bound for the Space Station
