carrabelle beach is located on US 98 about a mile west of carrabelle. since the beach is located on a bay it is not one of north florida's best beaches. most people visiting the carrabelle area travel west on US 98 to st. george island. st. george island has one of the best beaches in north florida. what makes carrabelle beach interesting are it's 1950's beach pivallions. these concrete structures are now rare in floriida. for those interested in florida tourism history carrabelle beach is worth a look.

the crooked river lighthouse was built in 1895 to replace a lighthouse on dog island that was destroyed by a hurricane. the crooked river lighthouse served as a navigational beacon for boats passing between dog and st. george islands. in 2001 the lighthouse and tender house was restored by carrabelle lighthouse association and is now a public park. admission is free.

camp gordon johnson was a training camp during WWII in carrabelle. over 250,000 troops trained in camp johnson between 1942 and 1945. today there is a museum about carrabelle's contribution to WWII. a worth while place to visit when in carrabelle.

back in the old days because there was almost no crime in carrabelle the police station was accessed from a telephone booth. if a crime occured the citizens of carrabelle would call the police from this telephone booth. today this is now a tourist attraction. of all the the places to visit in florida carrabelle is one of the most safest.
