    Clearwater Marine Aquarium - A Dolphin's Tale

by charlenemixa Written Aug 9, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Learn About Sea Life wth the Focus on Rescue, Recovery & Release:
The Aquarium's focus is on rescuing marine animals, aiding in their recovery and as much as possible releasing/retuning them to their natural habitat. The stories of each marine animal and how they came to be at the Aquarium add a lot of charm. Many of the animals are not able to be returned to their natural habitat. We really enjoyed the Dolphin show and hearing the story of Nicholas and how he was saved. It was a fun time for our grandchildren who are under 3 years old. There are a several exhibits of turtles, dolphins, sharks, otters, etc. The challenge is it is the layout is not as smooth or sometimes as professional as other aquariums designed for tourists - so it is not a Sea World or lush city aquarium. Having the popular movie a Dolphin's Tale of how a dolphin (Winter) from the aquarium was saved with an artificial tale has drastically impacted the interest in the Aquarium. It is challenged to handle the crowds this is bringing. They do have a two in one ticket which includes the Aquarium and a tour of sets in downtown Clearwater of the movie. We went on a Sunday and it was packed. We recommend going on a different day, not a weekend for more time to really see the exhibits and spend time with the trainers. The staff and volunteers were all helpful, sharing information and answering questions. Again, remember when visiting, this is laboratory for marine animals that is available to the public. They do a basically good job with handling the public. Don’t expect glitz and glamour of large city aquariums. We recommend you plan plenty of time to take advantage of the two in one ticket to visit both sites. If you haven’t seen the movie, it would be good to see it before you go to so the sets and movie aspect is more interesting.

Terrific Park & Beautiful Beach: Sand Key Park

by charlenemixa Written Aug 9, 2014

The Sand Key Park is terrific. Going on a Friday morning in early September, we really enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the beach. Very few people were out on a weekday. The sand is firm and great for taking a long walk. Also, the beach and water are all sand for ease of getting into and out of The Gulf. We used the changing facilities afterwards and the stopped for lunch at Frenchy's. The park also has some large pavilions for group gatherings. This is a wonderful beach with easy parking, bathroom and changing rooms. The cost is only $5 per vehicle for the day. It is not the teen or college scene as no alcohol is allowed.

We tend to avoid the crowded Clearwater Beach and go to Sand Key Park instead. For those seeking a quieter setting it is perfect. Since it is a Park - no alcohol is allowed so it doesn't get the crowds other beaches might get of young people out to party.

  • AirHeads Trampoline Anrea

by AshleyFoxing Written Apr 23, 2014

AIrHeads is an AWESOME place to take your kids while in the St.Pete/ Clearwater area! They jump all day on the huge trampoline floors and walls. My kids also LOVED the arcade and their food isn't half bad. It's pretty affordable ($16.95 for the whole day and you re enter). Don't forget you have to buy grip socks to jum, they cost about $2.50 and you can keep them. Free to enter, you only have to pay if you want to jump!

Flight excursions Inc. Tampa Bay Clearwater

    by Kandi4You Written Jul 12, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I keep looking for great things to do in and around Clearwater and on my last trip i went on this amazing, smooth very comfortable Cessna flight.

Flight excursions offer Sunset or daytime flights over the Tampa Bay area, the flight was truly awesome, my friend and me were stunned by the beauty of the sunset and the view, we would definitely recommend this experience to everyone!

The pilot was a very polite and friendly Scandinavian, he flew over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and made this flight very exciting and adventurous for us, I was able to take beautiful pictures.

The price was worth it I'm considering on booking again.

    Cleveland Street District

by ATXtraveler Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are not coming to Clearwater with the express purpose of laying out on the sand and enjoying the waves, you will likely consider the Cleveland Street District as the official "Thing to Do" in Clearwater. This is a fairly urban suburb of St. Petersburg, and the downtown district seems to be recently revitalized. Cleveland Street in particular has gone under major renovation, including the addition of a island of plants in the middle of the street, multiple pedestrian crossings, and some urban art. There are multiple coffee, juice and ice cream shops, as well as a very large Christian Scientology building.

It would be difficult to list all the restaurants (over 20) and shops (over 30) in this area, so it is best that you just park your car and walk around this district.

by easterntrekker Written Feb 27, 2009

The Live Oak tree has been called majestic, romantic, and "one of the most impressive trees in North America." It is the state tree of Georgia but there are many of them in Florida as well. They can live as long as 500 years and look so beautiful when draped in the typical grayish moss.

Elvin Bishop at the Sea Blues Festival

by easterntrekker Written Feb 27, 2009

There was quite a good lineup of artists at the 2009 festival . We really enjoyed Elvin Bishop the last performer on Sunday evening. Although he is best-known for his early-to-mid-1970s success as a Southern rock artist, but he has spent the better part of the last three decades bangin' out the blues.
