Enjoy a daytime cruise aboard the Calypso Queen, taking in the sights of beautiful Clearwater harbor. This afternoon cruise features a live captain’s sightseeing narration including points of interest along the route and the history of the picturesque region. Dolphins are a common sight on the afternoon cruise! For those that choose to have lunch they offer a Tropical Island Style Buffet.
The cruise prices are really reasonable for this vessel so if I were you I'd take advantage of it and GO. :-)
Compared to the Florida Aquarium across the bay in Tampa this is smaller than small but it is also quite nice. It was here I first fell in love with rays of all kinds as we were allowed to pet the one they had. Suprisingly he was sort of soft and velvety, but I digress....
The Clearwater Aquarium specializes in marine life rehabilitation. On the second floor they have their rehab tanks for sea turtles and dolphins.

While I've never actually been on one of these cruises (I'm not sure it's a "must do", either).....I see them all passing by constantly. At the Clearwater Municipal Marina, opposite Pier 60 you can check out the different excursions, dinner cruises, and family fun cruises. Some are shelling and snorkeling tours, there's Captain Memo's Pirate Cruise (at night turns into obnoxious karaeoke cruise with loud music and lights all over), Southern Romance sailing cruises, and plenty of deep sea fishing packages to choose from!
Down toward the South Beach...just off shore sits Bird Island. It's a small bird sanctuary. Around dusk every night, bird flock here for the evening hours. They stop on the beach to do some fishing or to rest. You can see great Blue Herons, Double Crested Cormorants, White Ibis, Sandhill Cranes, among others! When a storm is brewing, they get VERY loud...and there is usually a flurry of them rushing to get to the Island before it rains!
If laying around on the beach isn't exciting enough for you, lay around on the beach and fish......make it seem like you're actually doing something! if you happen to be vacationing here, walk down to the South Beach where the locals live. They love to tell stories about the one that got away!
Clearwater Beach known for its beautiful beaches, picturesque sunsets, mystical evenings. Who would want anything more?
clearwater holds the record for most days of sunshine (361 days). Look at the Guinness Book of World Records. Clearwater was nominated for having two of the top ten beaches in the United States of America? That doesn't suck.
"Sunsets at Pier 60" is a festival that runs every Thursday through Monday evening two hours prior to sunset to two hours past sunset.
Here is a list of some of the beaches attractions;
Parasail City (Name says it all)
Captain Bligh's Landing (miniature golf)
Captain Memo's Pirate Cruise
Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Show Queen (Dinner Cruise)
Kai Lani (Clearwaters Fastest Sailing Charter Boat)
Stop by and have some fun!!

This aquarium is home to many sea animals who have been rescued and rehabilitated. The ultimate goal, of course, is to release them back into the wild, but many becaome permanent residents due to their injuries. Among the full time residents are two North American river otters, dolphins, and sea turtles. There is a small "pool" where you can get up close and personal with sting rays, starfish, and other small marine life.
Children 3-12 $6.25
Located on the northernmost tip of Clearwater Beach, Caladesi Island can only be reached by boat. Three miles of Florida wilderness that leads to one of the top 5 beaches in the US. Hiking trails, florea and fauna. Pack a picnic, bring a book, a bag for seashells.....and a camera.
Ferry Service, bring your own boat, or rent a kayak.
Clearwater Beach is a great beach, but if you want to escape the crowds, head to Sand Key Park. It's a half mile stretch of pristine white sandy beach. There are picnic areas, playground, and off the beach , there are wonderful gardens and groves to walk through.
Everyone talks about the beautiful sunsets at Key West. But I found the shore line at Key West to have a blocked view and the sunsets not so magnificant. The sunsets on the beach here at Clearwater are very beautiful in contrast. There is a large pier called Pier 60 that jetty's out into the Gulf of Mexico from the showline. In the evenings just before sunset the pier if full of vendors. You can stroll down the pier and watch the sunset, or do as I did and walk up the beach for a beautiful view.
This is the main road that drives down along the beach. There are motels, shops and restaurants all along the road. Clearwater is not that large of a resort. You can walk the entire commercial area and leave your car parked at your motel. I was here in early May. The spring break crowd had already left the area and the summer tourist season had not really started yet. So it was not very crowded. The weather was warm enough for the beach. I would recommend this as a good time to visit the area.
If you go to the beach at Clearwater Beach you will be welcomed by this fellow. No not the guy in the hat! The turtle on the left. Clearwater Beach is said to be rated as one Florida's best beaches. I was a bit disappointed with the beach itself. I am used to the mid Atlantic beaches in Maryland and Delaware which I think are much nicer. But I did not spend a lot of time on the beach here anyway. There are many other fun activities at Clearwater Beach.
If you have read any of my other pages you might have learned that I collect turtles when I go on vacation. So here was my perfect oppotunity to get a turtle picture for my collection. There will be other turtle photo ops later in Clearwater.
Go parasailing on Clearwater Beach! It's a little pricey but for some really good scarey fun it's worth it!
If you like to just spend a few hours looking for odds and ends or treasures then The Big Top is the place to go. They're only open saturday and sunday so plan accordingly.
You can ride as a single or bring a friend along but don't forget to bring a waterproof camera.
Very Pricey but if you like that sort of thing it's worth it. :-)
