    located in the parking lot in front of the speedway is the daytona 500 experience. the daytona 500 experience has a 3D imax movie presentation, acceleration alley were you can drive a race car simulator, and a gift shop that sells NASCAR souveniers. you can also book rides on the daytona race track or drive a race car yourself. these two options must be reserved in advance by calling 1-800- BE PETTY. see the attached website for ticket information. the daytona 500 experience is a very interesting place to visit for stock car racing fans.

    the historic daytona beach band shell was built in 1937 as a WPA project during the great depression. the band shell is located at ocean front park near the hilton resort. the band shell was constructed from coquina rock which is a florida stone consisting of compressed sea shells. the band shell hosts numerous concerts during the year check the attached website for dates and times.

    the ponce inlet lighthouse was designed by francis h. smith and was built in 1887. this lighthouse is the tallest in florida and the second tallest in the united states. along with the lighthouse is a museum and a small park. you can go up to the top of the lighthouse for a small fee.

    located, i guess, in the middle of Daytona Beach, right by the pier, it's basically just an arcade on the boardwalk by the beach. Nothin special, but kinda cool just the same!

    During the high season it gets very busy with all sorts of activities such as swimming and sunbathing, surfing, frisbee, sandcastle building, volleyball, jogging, cycling, kite flying, riding floats or motorbikes, sailing, jet skiing, skim boarding, fishing, sail boarding, enjoying free concerts or just taking romantic walks on the beach at night watching the sunset.

    • MAIN STREET: This is actually not the town's biggest thoroughfare; it's 'Biker Alley' just off the beach. Lots of leather shops, bars, bike accessory places, t-shirt shops, jewelry shops, cafes, etc. Bikers are friendly; tourists and non-bikers don't need to feel intimidated. Place is mobbed with street festival stuff during 'Bike Week' in March, and 'Biketoberfest' in October, but fairly quiet other times.

    There is an 18 mile stretch of sand for driving during daytime hours and the speed limit is set at 10mph.

    Head to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse a little south of Daytona Beach. Once you pass through the shop, you enter the lighthouse area. Watch a mini-movie on the history of the place, climb the light house or learn about recent water related topics - such as Cuban refugees desperate measures to seek freedom in the USA.
