Is this tip related to transportation or tourist traps? You could apply it to both topics. Parking on non-race days is usually easy to find and free. We parked across the street from the main entance to the Raceway in the shopping center where Ruby Tuesdays is located. We left the car there for about 6 hours each time with no problems at all. Race day is an entirely different thing. On race days, you have to have a permit on your dash board or your car WILL be towed away. This applys to ALL the parking lots around the track. Businesses around the track can make more money selling parking space than in store sales. The farther from the track you park, the cheaper the parking. We have parked in three different places. Two of them cost $25 but the lot at Ruby Tuesdays cost ---- $50 ---!!!
There are 'park-and-ride' lots far from the track that you could use. As far as I know, this choice is free and information can be found on the tracks web site about locations and tram schedules. I opted to pay the $50 parking fee mostly for health reasons. Not having a handicap permit, I chose to pay the price and park right across the street from the main gate. This proved to be a good choice. It rained on and off all day and turned off cold and we were really thankful for the short walk to the car.
Prices for each lot are usually posted at the entrance to the lot or you can just ask.

Once you arrive at the Daytona Beach airport, rent a car ASAP. You can do nothing without one. You can't just walk around, there are no sidewalks, and distances are huge. I always had to drive everywhere, even to the supermarket. You'll only see pedestrians close to the beach; within the city you'll see nobody walking (as I said, no sidewalks).

You'll want to bike it up State Road U.S. 1, whether you're coming from the North or the South of Daytona.
The reason for this is because miles before you even reach Daytona proper, you'll see vendors displaying their merchandise outside their shops.
The goods range from motorcycles to accessories - and sometimes they'll throw in some barbeque ribs and Lynard Skynard!
You can't beat it!
